'Father and Son' returns to theaters to 'Continue Life with Me'

Responding to the expectations of movie lovers, after nearly 8 years, the movie Cha cong con (directed by Luong Dinh Dung) will return to theaters to serve domestic audiences. And this time, the revenue from the movie's ticket sales will go along with the program Cung con di tiep cuoc doi of Thanh Nien Newspaper.

On the morning of October 14, at the Thanh Nien Newspaper office, the director and crew of the film Cha cong con had a signing ceremony to cooperate and accompany the newspaper's program Cung con di tiep cuoc doi . "Thank you, director and crew, for accompanying the program Cung con di tiep cuoc doi , to help the program continue to spread humanistic values," journalist Hai Thanh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, shared at the signing ceremony.

Director Luong Dinh Dung said that the film Cha Cong Con was once released in the domestic cinema system, but at that time the number of screenings was quite limited, many audiences had not enjoyed the film, so a few years ago, he had intended to bring the film back to theaters. However, for many reasons, it was not yet done. Recently, realizing that many audiences still wanted to see Cha Cong Con again, the director decided to bring the film back to theaters this November.

"This time I return to the theater, I want to do something more meaningful, even if it's small. Through the opportunity to connect, I realized that the program "With my children, continue life" of Thanh Nien Newspaper is very meaningful, humane and suitable for the content of the film as well as the pure message of the film, so I want to accompany the program, using ticket sales revenue to support orphaned children during the Covid-19 pandemic," the film director shared at the signing ceremony.

Talking more about bringing the movie Cha cong con back to theaters, director Luong Dinh Dung said that with a movie released 8 years ago, re-screening it will be more difficult. However, this is a family love movie, which can move millions of hearts because of the sacred and noble paternal love that is very typical of the Vietnamese people, so: "I hope the movie will return and be welcomed by the audience. And the story of the movie will help heal, convey a warm message about father-child love, about the fate of children as well as give me the opportunity to do something meaningful. In the movie, in addition to the purity of human love, there are many wonderful things that can be associated with Cung con di tiep cuoc doi ", director Luong Dinh Dung said.

The program "Continue your life with me" to sponsor orphans due to Covid-19 was launched by Thanh Nien Newspaper in September 2021. Over the past 4 years, the program has organized emergency support for nearly 2,000 children, provided long-term sponsorship for 459 children until the age of 18, awarded scholarships, gifts, organized entertainment for children on holidays... with a total amount of nearly 65 billion VND as of September 2025. In addition, the program also sponsored 86 orphans due to storm Yagi in the northern provinces with a total budget of more than 10 billion VND.

A MOVING JOURNEY OF PARENTAL LOVE

The film Cha cong con by director Luong Dinh Dung is one of the Vietnamese cinema works rich in humanity, which caused strong emotions when it was released in 2017. Inspired by a short story written by the director himself, the film tells a simple but touching story about the love between a poor father named Moc and a boy named Ca who lives by the river as a fisherman. In a makeshift house in the middle of a remote mountain area, they rely on each other during the hard days, poor but peaceful. The boy Ca has a serious illness but always cherishes the dream of seeing the city, of "touching the clouds", of seeing planes in the sky as told by a blind man who once visited the village. When his son's condition became critical, the father decided to carry his son on his back for a long journey to the city to find hope and fulfill his son's dream, even though he knew that the journey was full of risks and could be the last trip for the father and son... And that journey opened up a touching story about the father's desire to live, his love, and his unconditional sacrifice for his young son. The film conquered the audience with majestic, magnificent, but also harsh natural scenes of the northern mountains. The pouring rains, the rushing rivers, the misty mountains and forests... were not only the setting but also became a "character" accompanying him, reflecting the loneliness, love, and faith of the father and son in their struggle to make a living and find life.

Best Feature Film Award at the 17th Asia Pacific - Latin America Film Festival.

Representing Vietnamese cinema at the 90th Oscars and selected to be screened in the US, Italy, Canada, Estonia, India, Thailand, Laos, Uruguay, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Spain.
