In the graduation exam, multiple choice tests are graded by machine to ensure accuracy and objectivity. The Literature essay subject is graded by hand by staff and teachers according to the grading instructions, answers, and grading scale of the Ministry of Education and Training .
The test is graded on a 10-point scale and the fractional points of the total score are rounded to 2 decimal places.
At the end of the exam, many people were concerned about the possibility of "tight marking or loose marking" for essay tests. However, the marking of exams, regardless of the exam council, must comply with the regulations of the exam regulations.
If necessary, the Minister of Education and Training will decide to establish an Appraisal Council to appraise all or part of the exam papers and review results of one or several exam councils.
Review before announcing scores
The Ministry of Education and Training has issued common exam questions for all candidates nationwide, but the organization and grading of the exam are carried out by the local authorities. To ensure fairness and objectivity, the regulations also stipulate that there must be a stage of checking the essay exam, specifically the Literature subject.
The test marking team will mark at least 5% of the essay papers that have been marked the first or second time. Each test paper is marked by one examiner following a strict process.
There are 4 ways to select test papers for grading:
- Select a random test from the marked bag.
- Select the entire marked bag.
- Select the exam papers that were scored differently by two examiners before the score was unified.
- Select the exam papers with high scores in the Examination Council (based on agreement with the chairman of the Examination Council) and transfer them to the Examination Council Secretary to collect and hand over to the marking team to mark these exam papers.
In particular, the Ministry of Education and Training noted that the councils prioritize the marking of exams that have been agreed upon by two examiners. At the end of each marking session or when deemed necessary, the head of the marking team will summarize and report the results of the marking and make recommendations and proposals to the leaders of the marking board to apply appropriate measures to help ensure the marking is fair, objective and serious.
According to Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), during the exam marking period, the Ministry of Education and Training will strengthen inspection, examination, and supervision of the exam marking stages, comparison of exam score data, announcement of exam results, review of exam papers, consideration of high school graduation for candidates, and university and college admissions.
The inspection teams of the National Examination Steering Committee and the examination marking inspection team of the Ministry of Education and Training conduct examination marking inspections at all Councils to enhance the seriousness of the examination marking process.
Strictly and seriously implement the process of marking essay tests, multiple-choice tests and exam review to ensure compliance with regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The Ministry of Education and Training has also strengthened its information technology infrastructure to ensure that the announcement of exam results at 8:00 a.m. on July 16 will absolutely not cause network congestion.
