Born and raised in a poor rural area in Khe Long Ngoai village, Thanh Son commune (now Ba Che commune), young man Dam Van Trieu of San Chi ethnic group has always cherished the dream of getting rich on his homeland. Although he graduated from Law University, Mr. Trieu did not pursue his major, instead, with the will and aspiration to rise up, he returned to his hometown to develop the economy. At the time when Ba Che district previously encouraged households to grow yellow tea flowers - a precious medicinal herb in the list of OCOP products of the province, Mr. Trieu took advantage of his family's forest land to convert 3 hectares of acacia to grow 2.5 hectares of yellow tea flowers, the remaining area planted with Morinda officinalis, rattan... which are also plants that bring economic efficiency in the area.
Some time later, realizing that the conditions in his hometown were very suitable for developing livestock farming, in 2019, he invested in barns and imported 1,000 Tien Yen chickens to raise. Mr. Trieu shared: "Thanks to the encouragement from my family and my father - who has experience in farming and raising livestock, I invested in barns to raise chickens using a semi-free-range farming method."
According to the investigation, the chickens in the process of raising and caring for are released by Mr. Trieu on the hills and gardens under the forest canopy so that the chickens can find more natural food. To proactively source medicinal herbs to feed the chickens, on the hill forest growing yellow tea flowers of his family, he uses medicinal plants grown such as: Lemongrass, honeysuckle, ginseng, ... to mix into the chicken feed to help increase the resistance of the chickens.
Mr. Trieu added: “I also researched and learned about chicken farming methods through the internet, then went to learn from surrounding farms and applied it to my family's chicken flock. From there, I gained a lot of experience and developed a garden - barn - forest economic model. This is also a new way of doing things in the locality. If I successfully apply it, it can be replicated for people in the area.”
Currently, on average, each year Mr. Trieu raises 2,000-2,500 chickens in a semi-free-range manner. To develop the medicinal hill chicken brand, recently, the Commune Youth Union has also supported and guided Mr. Trieu in the stages of breeding, care, disease prevention, how to build barns, install automatic feeding and drinking troughs, from which the chicken flock grows healthily.
Mr. Trieu also said that when he raised chickens from medicinal plants, the meat was firmer, more delicious, and not fishy, the skin was more yellow, and the chickens were less likely to get sick. And after a period of applying the method of raising chickens under the canopy of yellow camellia flowers, the family's economic life became more and more prosperous, with a more stable income of 200-300 million VND/year.
Identifying that accompanying young people in economic development, self-employment and career establishment is one of the important tasks of the Youth Union, Youth Union chapters at all levels have implemented programs to support young people in terms of careers, jobs and startups with many activities; at the same time, promoting communication and replicating successful startup models. The Provincial Youth Union established and maintained the activities of Investment and Startup Clubs in localities. In order to develop the startup ecosystem, especially supporting youth-owned businesses, the province also promotes resource connection, develops business incubators, improves the investment environment and applies science and technology, creating favorable conditions for young people to realize startup ideas in real life.
In 2024, the province organized the opening of the Center for Innovation and Startups and Digital Transformation Support. The Center's function is to provide space, facilities, and facilities to support activities for the community, businesses in general, and startups in particular; receive and develop initiatives and practical experiments, organize competitions of ideas and initiatives to serve the community; at the same time, improve the science and technology capacity of small and medium enterprises; organize activities to promote the development of the innovative startup ecosystem; support the development of startup ideas and projects, etc.
Since 2018, the contest "Creative Startup Ideas of Quang Ninh Province" has been held, creating a useful exchange playground for young people. In the past 3 years, the contest has received 162 startup ideas and projects from young people, students and pupils. Over the years, the ideas and projects have increased in both quantity and quality, clearly demonstrating the spirit of innovation and creativity of young people. The whole province has also supported over 120 young people to start a business, including 28 young people who started innovative startups, 132 businesses owned by young people have been consulted and supported to develop.
