"A stable, healthy and sustainable China-US relationship is in the common interests of the two countries and the expectation of the international community," President Xi Jinping said. At the same time, he expressed the hope that the two sides will uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, strengthen dialogue and communication, properly handle differences, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and find the right way "to get along in the new era, which will benefit the two countries and the world."

President Xi Jinping's message followed earlier messages from Ambassador Xie Feng and the Chinese Foreign Ministry and came just one day after Trump declared victory in the race to the White House, earlier than the congratulations sent to President Joe Biden four years ago, after the 2020 election.

At that time, the Chinese president also stressed the importance of a healthy and stable relationship between Beijing and Washington.

On the same day, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng also sent congratulations to Mr. JD Vance, Mr. Trump's deputy.

In addition to Xi Jinping, many world leaders have also posted messages or called to congratulate Trump, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In addition to posting congratulatory messages, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also called Trump.

With the world's two leading superpowers locked in increasingly fierce competition, there has been much speculation about how Mr. Trump will deal with Beijing in his second term.

During his first term, Mr. Trump launched a trade war with China. During his election campaign this year, he also threatened to impose a 60% tax on all imports from China if he was re-elected.

On November 6, when asked about the results of the US election, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning affirmed that this was an "internal matter" of the US and "we respect the choice of the American people".

"China's policy toward the US is consistent. We will continue to view and handle bilateral relations according to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation," Ms. Mao Ning emphasized.
