It is worth mentioning that this is a live performance in front of thousands of people, developed entirely by the Vietnamese engineering team of VinMotion (under Vingroup Corporation), from mechanics, electronics to software.
The miracle that made the big guys take their hats off
In recent days, social networks have been spreading a video recording the scene of VinMotion humanoid robots dancing extremely well on stage. To the vibrant music, the robots step and raise their hands rhythmically like professional dancers.
The flexibility and smoothness of the robot even made some viewers question the video being made by AI. Because, it is not easy to have such a magnificent “live demo”, especially for a technology brand that has only been established for about 7 months.
In the world , even the “veterans” in the humanoid robot industry often only have “closed demos” or have human support. Meanwhile, according to the video circulating on social networks, VinMotion’s performance is “pure robot”, with absolutely no human intervention.
Sharing about this, VinMotion Chairman Nguyen Trung Quan said that this is a video recorded live at the 32nd anniversary of Vingroup Corporation which took place on August 8 and was witnessed by thousands of people on the spot. Although it is only a rudimentary robot system after 7 months of the company's establishment, according to Mr. Quan, compared to the general level, this can be considered a world record in deployment speed because achieving stability for a live demo is very difficult.
VinMotion robots use a sensor system to maintain distance and balance while performing flexible movements, completely without passively jumping according to pre-programmed movements. Even when stomping their feet in unison, the robots still maintain a very even position.
“To achieve this, in addition to the stability of hardware and motion control software, we also have to ensure optimal real-time computing and network infrastructure connecting robots, to ensure that the “communication” between robots is almost absolutely synchronized and algorithms are performed in real time" - said the Chairman of VinMotion.
According to him, this is extremely complicated, especially when performed in a hall of more than 1,000 people, with many mobile devices connected to wifi, which can affect the performance. At the same time, the robot must recognize the environment, process many information at the same time as quickly as possible to perform the dance smoothly and rhythmically.
"Therefore, it can be affirmed that this live demo dance is truly a technological milestone for us to confidently deploy many robots at the same time in many practical applications in the near future," Mr. Quan affirmed.
Great team, mastering technology from A to Z
In fact, Nguyen Trung Quan is not a strange name in the field of robotics in the world. He has more than 10 years of working and researching in the field of robotics; graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University, the world's leading university in robotics after only 3.5 years, participated in the world-famous MIT Cheetah robot project, then became a professor of robotics at the University of Southern California (USC) - top 10 technology schools in the US.
Along with many Vietnamese robotics talents from around the world gathered at VinMotion, Mr. Nguyen Trung Quan said that this is the factor that helped VinMotion soon own a team of robots that can dance with a great live demo, just after 7 months of establishing the company - something that is hard to imagine for many people.
Not only is VinMotion's robot growing at an extremely fast pace compared to other robot companies in the world, Mr. Quan also shares his pride because VinMotion's robot is mastered by Vietnamese engineers in the entire process, from mechanics, electronics to software. "Every detail is developed in Vietnam, 100% made in Vietnam by the hands of Vietnamese engineers and we are proud of that" - Mr. Quan affirmed.
Talking more about the reason for returning to Vietnam and sticking with the new name like VinMotion, Mr. Quan revealed that the biggest motivation that urged him to be willing to return to contribute to his homeland was because he was strongly convinced by the vision, great aspiration and desire to do good things for the country of Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong.
Moreover, according to him, Vietnam has a “golden advantage” in the humanoid robot race. Compared to the leading countries, Vietnam does not face barriers such as high production costs like the US, or trust issues like China. This means that Vietnam can start quickly and flexibly with more optimal directions.
“I believe this is the golden time for Vietnam to become a technology powerhouse, and humanoid robots are a field in which we have every opportunity to compete. This industry is still new, the market is not yet defined, which means Vietnam can enter and even lead in some areas. VinMotion was founded with the mission of creating a typical example to affirm Vietnam's position on the world technology map,” Mr. Quan believes.
Regarding upcoming plans, VinMotion's Chairman revealed that the company is developing robots to serve in factories, warehouses, receptions or support dangerous tasks for humans, in harsh environments with physically superior mobility compared to current humanoid robot models.
With VinMotion's speed exceeding the limit, technology experts believe that users will soon witness a completely new generation of robots made in Vietnam with the ability to take on many different jobs. VinMotion's targeted fields are also considered trends that the world's largest companies are starting to apply. Therefore, if they catch up and accelerate soon, humanoid robots made in Vietnam will have many great advantages.
“With its autonomous technology platform and clear goals, VinMotion is opening up opportunities for Vietnam to enter the group of leading countries in the humanoid robot race - a field that is predicted to explode strongly in the next decade,” said an expert in the field of automation working in the US.
