The new Bac Ninh province has a large population of about 3.5 million people, and will be one of the administrative units with the largest population in the North, and the demand for goods and services will increase sharply. Along with that, there are more than 35,000 businesses operating in bustling industrial parks such as Yen Phong, Que Vo, VSIP, Quang Chau, Song Khe - Noi Hoang... This opens up great opportunities for retail, e-commerce, logistics, finance, education, and private healthcare businesses to develop, thereby forming regional service centers serving not only residents but also businesses. The merger of the two provinces is not simply a merger of administrative units, but an opportunity to create a new growth pole in trade and services, contributing to promoting sustainable economic development.

In the first 6 months of this year, total retail sales and consumer service revenue reached 97,763 billion VND (estimated for the whole year of 2025, Bac Ninh province will only reach 207 trillion VND); the proportion of trade and services in the economic structure accounts for 20.7%... Effectively utilizing free trade agreements signed with other countries is the foundation for the province to develop modern retail models, while increasing investment in large-scale trade and service infrastructure.

Some key projects are being implemented and put into operation such as: Complex - Agricultural Products Services - Thuan Thanh Wholesale Market; Provincial Fair and Exhibition Center; Khac Niem Trade Center; Bac Giang International Logistics Center... These projects contribute to linking trade - services with industry, agriculture and urban areas. Currently, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade is in charge of developing a plan for developing trade infrastructure in accordance with the level of socio-economic development. The province also plans to issue a set of criteria for evaluating and recognizing modern and civilized trade infrastructure; implementing projects and programs for developing trade - services in a professional and in-depth manner.

E-commerce boom

With the development of information technology, e-commerce continues to be a bright spot in Bac Ninh province (old), becoming one of the pioneering fields that significantly contribute to digital economic growth. According to the announcement of the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM), in 2025, the e-commerce index (EBI) of Bac Ninh province (old) will reach 13.9 points, ranking 6th nationwide. The province also made a strong impression with the development of logistics centers, e-commerce platforms, supporting the consumption of lychees and many agricultural products at home and abroad. These advances show that e-commerce is opening up new growth drivers for both localities - now merged into the new Bac Ninh province.

After the merger of the two provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh, Bac Ninh province has all the conditions to make a strong breakthrough. In that general picture, trade and services are facing a golden opportunity to accelerate development, contributing increasingly to the growth and economic restructuring of the province.

In the first 6 months of 2025, revenue from e-commerce accounted for more than 12% of total retail sales. Business on social networks such as Facebook, Zalo, YouTube... continued to expand with increasingly professional livestream sales. To keep up with the trend, many supermarkets, stores and small traders proactively invested in building their image, sales channels, management software, technology equipment, as well as training digital human resources. Notably, the province organized many training courses on business skills on digital platforms, developing brands and images for businesses and cooperatives. The infrastructure supporting e-commerce was also strengthened by maintaining and promoting products on the Bac Ninh e-commerce platform (ecombacninh.vn).

To date, 100% of establishments with OCOP products have completed traceability, have electronic transaction bank accounts and have access to modern sales channels such as voso.vn, postmart.vn. The synchronous development between traditional markets, supermarkets, shopping malls, convenience stores and digital platforms has formed a comprehensive trade and service network, contributing to improving the digital capacity and competitiveness of businesses, especially small and medium enterprises.

Towards building a modern and civilized Bac Ninh city

Bac Ninh province has just determined the target that by 2030, the proportion of trade and services will account for 40-45% of GRDP, becoming a large-scale shopping center of the capital region; developing trade associated with green and sustainable urban development, creating an ideal living space to attract high-quality human resources. From now on, Bac Ninh will synchronously implement mechanisms, policies and solutions to fundamentally innovate the strategy for developing trade and electronics, forming a closed, efficient and sustainable supply chain.

Specifically, the province prioritizes the development of service industries with high knowledge content and added value such as cross-border e-commerce, finance, logistics, digital services, etc.; attracting strategic investors to the high-quality service sector. Developing commercial infrastructure, promoting the activities of specialized streets and night streets; forming large logistics centers for the circulation of goods in the Northern region. Diversifying tourism products to promote the image of the province to domestic and international friends.

The establishment of the new Bac Ninh province is an opportunity to create a growth pole in trade and services, contributing to promoting sustainable economic development, soon turning Bac Ninh into a centrally-run city, a dynamic economic and cultural center of the Northern region; a modern, smart, prosperous urban area.
