Children have 11 days off for Tet, many parents in Ho Chi Minh City ask for a full 2 weeks off

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí16/12/2024

(Dan Tri) - Seeing that her child's schedule to return to school on the 6th day of Tet was a bit rushed, Ms. Ha decided to let her child have 3 more days off, extending the Tet holiday for her child to 14 days.

According to the adjustment, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have 11 days off for the Lunar New Year 2025, from January 23 to February 2, 2025 (ie December 24 to January 5).

After considering and reviewing the actual situation as well as the airfare, Ms. Truong Ngoc Ha's family, in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City, decided to ask the homeroom teacher to let her child have 3 more days off after Tet compared to the above schedule.

Ms. Ha booked tickets for her two children. Her eldest child, a 9th grader, and her younger sister, a 7th grader, will return to their hometown on January 23, 2025. Her husband and wife will return 3 days later.

After Tet, the whole family will return to Ho Chi Minh City together on the afternoon of February 5 (January 8). The children will return to school on January 9 or 10, 3-4 days later than usual.

Ms. Ha explained that Ho Chi Minh City has adjusted the number of Tet holidays for students from 9 to 11 days. However, the schedule has increased the number of days off before Tet, and after Tet, children will return to school on the 6th day of Tet.

In the guidance on the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, assigned heads of educational institutions to proactively develop their units' educational plans on the principle of ensuring enough time for teaching, learning, testing, evaluation and completing the school's educational plan in the 2024-2025 school year according to regulations.

In addition, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu also emphasized that schools need to create favorable conditions and resolve issues reasonably for students who do not reside in Ho Chi Minh City during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.

According to this schedule, children will return to Ho Chi Minh City from the 4th to rest before going back to school.

Not to mention, many families living far away travel by train or car, so their children may return to the city with their family on the third day of Tet.

Ms. Ha said that for those who live far away, each time they return home is difficult and very expensive.

This is also the only long break in the middle of the school year, so she wants her children to have more time to play and relax more comfortably.

So, the couple agreed to let their child take a few more days off after Tet.

Her children also regret because the first days of the year at school have many spring activities and lucky money, but if they go back to their hometown to eat and drink too much, it would be even more regrettable.

Mr. Do Duc Vinh and his wife, in Linh Dong ward, Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh City, also plan to let their child take a few more days off because they do not want him to return home too hastily during Tet.

His family in Thanh Hoa traveled by train, the children went back to school on the 6th of Tet, but on the 3rd they had to say goodbye to their grandparents. The children did not want to take time off from school and the first days of the year, but it was the most suitable way to have a leisurely Tet holiday, to have more time with their relatives.

Mr. Vinh said that in recent years, Ho Chi Minh City has given students a 14-16 day Tet holiday. With this schedule, some families have difficulty finding childcare, but in general, parents can arrange a suitable holiday schedule for people living far away to return home for Tet.

My nephew studies at a non-public school, and the school has scheduled a 14-day Tet holiday. He returns to school after Tet on Thursday in the middle of the week.

"In my opinion, Ho Chi Minh City should fix a Tet holiday of at least 2 weeks for students, suitable for localities with a large migrant population.

Students do not necessarily have to start school on Monday or can postpone the school year by a week. Summer is long, there is no need to rush," Vinh shared.

According to current regulations, one of the conditions for being promoted to a new grade or being recognized as having completed the junior high school program or high school program is: "Not having more than 45 absences in a school year (calculated according to the education plan of 1 session/day prescribed in the General Education Program, including authorized and unauthorized absences, continuous or intermittent absences)".

Regarding school regulations at all levels, there are regulations that homeroom teachers "have the right to allow individual students with legitimate reasons to be absent from school for no more than 3 consecutive days."
