Every year, when the Mid-Autumn Festival comes, the lantern street on Luong Nhu Hoc Street (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) sells all kinds of lanterns. This place therefore attracts young people as well as many families to gather to have fun, visit and take pictures.

To meet the needs of the people, dozens of households around the lantern street have opened spontaneous parking lots. However, many parking attendants go out into the middle of the street to solicit customers, overcharging for motorbike parking up to 30,000 - 40,000 VND/vehicle, making many people angry.

Young people look for a place to park their vehicles to visit and have fun at the lantern street on Luong Nhu Hoc street.

On the evening of October 4, thousands of people flocked to Luong Nhu Hoc Street to have fun, causing the street to be jammed. Nearly a hundred spontaneous parking lots were formed on Luong Nhu Hoc, Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Trai, Lao Tu, Hong Bang Streets...

Most of these parking lots are opened by households in the area to serve the needs of the people. These parking lots take advantage of the space inside the house to the entire sidewalk and road, encroaching on the pedestrian path.

To attract customers to park their vehicles, many parking lot owners turn on loud speakers to invite them in. A more common way is for these spontaneous parking lots to send people out into the middle of the street to entice customers to park their vehicles. Each section of the street around the lantern street has dozens of people lining up to wave at customers to park their vehicles. Any motorbike that passes by is waved at, or even blocked from entering, causing traffic insecurity.

Employees of a spontaneous parking lot came out in the middle of Luong Nhu Hoc street to solicit customers to park their cars.

Pulling into a parking lot near the intersection of Luong Nhu Hoc Street, we were immediately pulled in by a woman who offered us 30,000 VND/time for parking a manual motorbike and 40,000 VND/time for parking a scooter. When we complained about the high price, the owner of the parking lot loudly said: "Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, but it has to be more expensive than usual. If you want it cheaper, go somewhere else."

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Linh (58 years old, living in District 11) shared: "Every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival, I take my family to visit the lantern street. Just last year and the year before, the parking fee was usually at its highest, around 15,000 to 20,000 VND. This year, many places are ripping off people by 30,000 to 50,000 VND."

Along Tran Hung Dao street from Trieu Quang Phuc intersection to Chau Van Liem, around Nguyen Trai, there are about 30 other parking spots. Here, we recorded the price of about 15,000 to 30,000 VND depending on the distance to the lantern street.

An employee shared that every year there is only the Mid-Autumn Festival to do business, so he takes the opportunity to make money.

A spontaneous parking lot occupies the entire sidewalk and roadway at the Ky Hoa - Luong Nhu Hoc intersection.

Sidewalks, roads, schools, apartment basements... are all fully utilized as parking lots, which is both unsafe for traffic and does not ensure security and order.
