Da Nang reopens Son Tra Peninsula sightseeing routes after nearly 3 years of closure

After nearly 3 years of suspension due to landslides, from September 16, sightseeing and picnic routes at Son Tra Peninsula, Da Nang will officially reopen, with many new regulations to ensure safety and protect the natural landscape.

On September 15, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches said that from September 16, sightseeing and picnic routes at Son Tra Peninsula will be reopened after a temporary closure to repair landslides caused by heavy rains in October 2022.

Son Tra Peninsula is considered the "green lung" in the heart of Da Nang city.

The routes put into operation include: Tien Sa - Suoi Om - Ban Co Peak; Ban Co Peak - Bai Bac; Bai Bac Intersection - Heritage Tree. Visiting hours are regulated from 7:30 - 18:30 (from March to the end of September) and 7:30 - 17:30 (from October to the end of February next year). Activities will be temporarily suspended when there is a bad weather warning.

Regarding means of transportation, the Tien Sa – Suoi Om – Dinh Ban Co route allows sports bicycles, mountain bikes, motorbikes (except scooters) and walking.

The Ban Co Peak – Bai Bac route is one-way only from Ban Co Peak down, not applicable for scooters and cars with more than 24 seats. The Bai Bac – Cay Da Heritage route is only for pedestrians.

Son Tra Peninsula has more than 1,000 species of plants and 531 species of animals, many of which are listed in the Vietnam Red Book. This is also home to many primate species such as the red-shanked douc langur, golden monkey, red-faced monkey...

Individual guests will be given a green card and must return it on the same day; group guests and operating businesses need to notify the Management Board in advance about the time, route, and number of guests.

The management board also confirmed that it will absolutely ban spontaneous trekking routes to Huc Lo, Mui Nghe, and Bai Da Den to ensure safety and protect the landscape.

Visitors must comply with the prescribed time and route; not encroach on restricted or defense areas; not litter, cut down trees, or make fires; only use flycams, film, or take photos in permitted areas and with the consent of the authorities.

According to the Management Board, reopening Son Tra tour routes not only helps tourists continue to explore the natural beauty but also contributes to promoting sustainable eco-tourism development in Da Nang.
