Not being in the top seeding group nor considered a championship candidate, tennis player Nguyen Hai Dang of Ho Chi Minh City played "sublimely", reaching high performance to win the highest title. In the semi-finals, Hai Dang beat world No. 76 Viren Nettasinghe (Sri Lanka) and in the final, the 23-year-old talent of Vietnamese badminton defeated world No. 49 Sathish Kumar (India) after only 2 sets with scores of 21/17, 21/18 respectively.
