Having played side by side in major and minor tournaments domestically and internationally, at the Malaysia Cup 2025, two top Vietnamese tennis players Hoang Nam and Linh Giang were opponents in the quarter-finals.
Previously, this pair had faced each other twice at the 2025 Malaysia Cup and Trinh Linh Giang won both times.

In their third encounter, both Ly Hoang Nam and Trinh Linh Giang showed a deep understanding of their opponents. With their forte of dink kitchen (dropping shots close to the net), both played a tug-of-war and patiently waited for the opponent to make a mistake to end the point. However, Hoang Nam was the more patient and won the first set with a score of 11-3.
In the second set, Trinh Linh Giang changed his playing style by continuously approaching the kitchen, pushing Ly Hoang Nam back deep. This pressing tactic was effective, forcing Hoang Nam to hit the ball to two corners of the court, making him vulnerable to being predicted and making many mistakes. Taking advantage of his opponent's mistakes, Linh Giang ended the set with an 11-8 victory, equalizing the match score.
In the deciding set, although both players were exhausted, Ly Hoang Nam still showed his superiority. With a slow playing style, better technique and the ability to seize opportunities, Hoang Nam won 11-5 and secured a ticket to the semi-finals.
Along with Ly Hoang Nam, another representative of Vietnam, Truong Vinh Hien, also had a surprise victory in the quarterfinals when he defeated Marco Leung from Macau. Against the 13th ranked player of PPA Tour Asia in the men's singles, Vinh Hien unexpectedly played brilliantly and transformed to easily win 11-3, 11-3, earning a ticket to the semi-finals to meet Hong Kit Wong.
Thus, Vietnam has two representatives left in the men's singles category of the PPA Malaysia Cup 2025. Ly Hoang Nam will enter a challenging semi-final match when he faces Christian Alshon (4th in singles PPA Tour). With two players advancing far, Vietnam pickleball is sure to win a medal in this category, and fans will wait for the final results tomorrow (September 27).
