The Ethics of Gratitude - A Source That Never Runs Dry

July comes to awaken the source of gratitude so that millions of Vietnamese hearts can remember those who "died for the country".

The song of victory and victory

On September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening a new, bright era for the nation. Behind that was the silent sacrifice and great dedication, the blood of many outstanding children that soaked into the motherland. The annual War Invalids and Martyrs Day is a sacred moment for every Vietnamese person to remember the past, to understand that there is no triumph without pain and no victory flag without the blood of those who have fallen. As Uncle Ho once affirmed: "The blood of martyrs has made the revolutionary flag more brilliant red".

The joy of National Day thus becomes more profound; and War Invalids and Martyrs Day immortalizes infinite gratitude. And from there, today's and future generations understand and enhance their sense of responsibility to preserve and develop their homeland and country. In which, the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" is like a source that never runs dry, passed down from generation to generation.

Since the first Decree issued by President Ho Chi Minh in 1947 on the “pension, disability and death benefits” regime, that gratitude has been institutionalized into the policies of the Party and the State. The regulations, decrees and programs issued are not to fulfill an administrative goal but are a way to actualize the morality of gratitude into action.

Especially in 2025, with the strong direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , the goal of completely eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for people with revolutionary contributions and poor households has become the focus. The houses built are not only a place to "live" but also show care, gratitude and the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source".

Engrave gratitude

During the period of organizational consolidation according to the 2-level local government model after the merger, despite many initial difficulties, the province still paid attention to taking care of policy families and people with revolutionary contributions. That is a morality that is always preserved and promoted regardless of the circumstances. The programs and activities of gratitude organized and implemented have created a widespread influence such as the Meals of Love - where the provincial leaders sat next to the Heroic Vietnamese Mothers to listen to each story of silent sacrifice, the Comrades' Homes that veterans dedicated to their comrades who fought in the trenches, etc.

Every action, every deed is a sincere gratitude from today's and future generations - those who have, are, and will continue to write new pages of history with courage and aspiration. Gratitude, therefore, cannot be just empty words but must be concrete actions: Study seriously, work creatively, live kindly and dedicate yourself, do not hesitate to build a "more decent, more beautiful" Vietnam as Uncle Ho always wished. Gratitude is also protecting history from all distortions, preserving the qualities of Vietnamese people in the digital life that is changing every day.

The 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day is another time to show gratitude deeply in the hearts of the nation. It is not only a tribute to the fallen, but also a torch to light the way for today's generation to continue the ideal of "Determination to die for the Fatherland" of the previous generation to become "Determination to build a strong country" in today's era./.
