Located in the upper Cam Khe district, Van Ban commune has a large area of ​​land for growing thorny palm trees - a typical tree species of the Ancestral Land. In previous years, palm fruit products of people in the commune and neighboring communes were only harvested and processed, sold as raw materials, so the economic efficiency was not high.

Realizing that this is a raw material that can be processed into cooking oil, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan's family in Nuong Son area has boldly invested in modern machinery to produce hemp palm oil for sale to the market. Recently, the People's Committee of Cam Khe district has decided to recognize Song Thao hemp palm oil as meeting 3-star OCOP standards, contributing to preserving the value of local products on the journey to build a sustainable new countryside.

Song Thao hemp palm oil products participated in appraisal, evaluation and were certified to achieve 3-star OCOP.

The raw material area for palm oil production is currently being produced and consumed by Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan's household in association with other households in the commune with a scale of 8 hectares, with an output of 250 tons of fresh fruit/year. Fresh palm fruit after being harvested will be washed, steamed, and the seeds removed to get the pulp. The palm pulp contains many nutritional values, is dried, then pressed and filtered to produce pure palm oil. Hemp palm oil is rich in vitamin E (9.04 mg/kg). Vitamin E in palm oil has many times higher biological activity than other vegetable oils, helping to reduce the risk of stroke.

In addition, the vitamin A precursor content in palm oil is 15 times higher than that of carrots, and they have the ability to eliminate excess oxygen atoms. Containing no trans fat, palm oil is considered healthier, a perfect substitute for lard or butter. Song Thao hemp palm oil products are used in daily cooking: stir-frying, frying, mixing salads... are all better than many other common cooking oils.

The product has been assessed and certified by the authorities to have a high content of antioxidants and many vitamins, has a beautifying effect, helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, supports blood sugar regulation in diabetic patients, and reduces the risk of obesity. Through the production process using modern machinery systems, Song Thao hemp palm oil products are refined, deacidified, decolorized, deodorized and are certified to meet food safety and hygiene conditions.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Owner of the production facility shared: “With the desire to develop and bring vegetable oil products that meet all the criteria: Delicious, nutritious, cheap, safe to consumers in and outside the province, my family has invested in advanced production technology and machinery to improve product quality and production efficiency. Along with that, we have researched and designed beautiful and attractive packaging and labels to meet the needs and tastes of customers. Participating in the OCOP product evaluation program is an important milestone to bring the product further and further into the market, building trust in the hearts of consumers”.

Refined hemp palm oil products, packaged in jars of 100ml and 400ml, are sold directly at the factory and displayed at supermarket systems in the province and on e-commerce platforms. In 2023, after deducting expenses, the production facility earned a profit of nearly 300 million VND, creating jobs for many local workers.

Palm fruit is used to produce essential oil.

Regarding the orientation of product development in the coming time, comrade Nguyen Viet Xuan - Chairman of Van Ban Commune People's Committee said: "The local government will try to coordinate with functional agencies in guiding palm tree care techniques to continue expanding the raw material area to meet market demand. From there, increase the income value for the people. We hope that our hometown products will increasingly spread to the market, be welcomed by everyone, contributing to bringing high economic value to local OCOP products".

Therefore, hemp palm oil is a product trusted by housewives and is an attractive gift from the homeland for visitors from afar when visiting the Central Highlands countryside.
