On September 25, a source from the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper confirmed that the refrigerated cargo ship named Sheng Li, which was in the storm shelter area for fishing vessels in the Con Dao special zone in an abandoned state, was successfully auctioned.
However, the organization or individual winning the auction of the Sheng Li ship assets can only use them for scrap recovery, not for conversion or other purposes.
Previously, the HCM City Department of Finance authorized Lam Son Saigon Auction Company to organize the auction of the Sheng Li ship, with a starting price of VND1.7 billion. The deposit is VND340 million, excluding VAT and other fees and charges.
Sheng Li is a refrigerated cargo ship, built in 2002 with a width of 8.5 m, length of 52 m, estimated tonnage of 12,000 tons, now old and heavily damaged.
As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, before the Sheng Li ship was auctioned, Amadive Tourism Services Company Limited sent a document to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and related units, proposing a project to sink the Sheng Li ship, creating a high-class diving spot in the Con Dao area.
This contributes to attracting domestic and foreign tourists, developing green tourism, and experiencing nature in Con Dao.
However, in the document of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City responding to Amadive Company, it is stated that the proposal to sink the Sheng Li ship is not in accordance with Decree No. 05/2017/ND-CP on handling sunken assets on inland waterways, seaport waters and sea areas of Vietnam. Accordingly, based on current regulations, there are only two forms of handling the Sheng Li ship: destruction and sale, not sinking.
Speaking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , Mr. Ngo Tuan Tu, Director of Amadive Company, said that his company did not participate in the auction of the Sheng Li ship because according to regulations, there are only two ways to dispose of the ship: destroying and selling, but not sinking the ship for tourism purposes. However, he said he would continue to propose another project, on a smaller scale.
