Crude oil prices fell 1% in early trading on Tuesday, as weak U.S. consumer confidence data raised concerns about the economic outlook and fuel demand after a slow start to the U.S. summer driving season.
US consumer confidence fell in June. While households remain optimistic about the labor market and expect inflation to remain moderate, concerns about the economy could dampen gasoline demand.
High inventories have oil traders worried about summer driving demand. Market sources cited data from the American Petroleum Institute that also showed gasoline inventories rose by 3.843 million barrels and distillate inventories fell by 1.178 million barrels. Official government data is due on Wednesday.
A preliminary Reuters poll showed U.S. crude and gasoline stocks are expected to have fallen while distillate inventories likely rose last week.
Investors are also trying to discern the timing of a Federal Reserve rate cut. Fed Governor Lisa Cook said a rate cut is possible if the economy performs as expected, but declined to say when the US central bank would act.
“The Fed rate decision is still up in the air and most crude markets have priced in a quarter of a percent decline in September,” said Dennis Kissler, senior vice president of trading at BOK Financial.
Oil has drawn support from supply disruptions linked to Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. On June 21, Ukrainian drones attacked four refineries, including the Ilsky refinery, one of the main fuel producers in southern Russia.
Analysts said concerns about escalating tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group also underpinned oil prices.
Gaza health and medical officials said Israeli forces killed at least 24 Palestinians in three separate airstrikes on Gaza City early Tuesday morning. More than eight months into the war, US-backed international mediation bodies have failed to reach a ceasefire.
“Geopolitical pressure continues to shake the oil market from multiple fronts,” said Claudio Galimberti, head of consultancy Rystad Energy. “Geopolitical tensions are expected to persist amid failed attempts to broker a ceasefire.”

Specifically, the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline increased to 21,508 VND/liter; RON 95 gasoline increased to 22,466 VND/liter.
In this adjustment session, oil prices increased again. Specifically, diesel oil price increased to 20,360 VND/liter; kerosene increased to 20,356 VND/liter. Fuel oil in this session was also adjusted up 334 VND/kg to 17,223 VND/kg.

Diesel | 20,360 | +720 |
Oil | 20,356 | +497 |
Fuel oil | 17,223 | +334 |
According to the explanation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the above changes in domestic gasoline prices are due to the influence of factors such as: tensions in the Middle East region showing signs of increasing, military conflict between Russia and Ukraine continuing, Ukraine continuing to attack Russian oil storage... The above factors have caused world gasoline prices to tend to increase in recent days.
Regarding the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund (BOG) in this management period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance jointly decided: Not to set aside or use the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund for E5RON92 gasoline, RON95 gasoline, diesel oil, kerosene, and fuel oil.
Thus, since the beginning of the year, the regulatory agency has made 25 adjustments to gasoline prices, including 10 periods of simultaneous increases, 7 periods of price decreases, and 8 periods of alternating increases and decreases in gasoline prices.
