Báo Quân đội Nhân dânBáo Quân đội Nhân dân20/05/2023

Encouraging and encouraging soldiers to read books on holidays and breaks is one of the contents implemented by agencies and units in Gia Lai province, contributing to educating and shaping the personality of soldiers. According to Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Huu Ninh, Deputy Chief of Politics of Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard, reading books, newspapers and magazines helps soldiers gain more knowledge, enrich their spiritual life, thereby raising awareness and discipline, limiting contact with social evils outside, creating motivation to compete, train physically, build a strong and comprehensive unit, "exemplary and typical".

To build the habit of reading, border posts and the Training-Mobile Battalion have deployed many models such as: "Books at the soldiers' bedside", "Book and newspaper reading club", "Training ground newspaper box"...

In particular, the model "One book a week" is organized effectively, gradually forming a reading culture in the unit, contributing to enriching spiritual life, improving understanding, and educating awareness and responsibility for soldiers in performing their tasks. The highlight of the above model is to select a good book each week to introduce in the internal radio program and the "Good book every day" section on the unit's Zalo and Facebook pages, aiming to guide soldiers to register to borrow and read books at the library and reading room. One of the positive results is that since the model was deployed, more than 1,250 officers and soldiers have registered to borrow and read more than 1,600 books of many genres.

To best meet the reading needs of officers and soldiers, the Border Guard stations, the Training-Mobile Battalion has allocated a certain amount of funds to renovate the Ho Chi Minh Room, build and consolidate reading rooms, "team activity houses", "law bookcases", "law bookcases"... so that soldiers have a comfortable and close space to read books and search for information, bringing high efficiency in studying and training.

Up to now, the reading room of the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard Library has about 2,500 books with more than 3,000 copies and the number of books circulated between the Ho Chi Minh Departments, the legal newspaper bookcases of the border stations.... In addition to the books serving military training, political education, the reading room, the Ho Chi Minh Department of the units also has books on history, culture, society, economics, law, medicine...

Major Phan Cong Thang, Political Commissar of Ia Puch Border Guard Station, said that in recent years, the unit has increased investment and added facilities to the reading room system, Ho Chi Minh Room, linking the reading movement with the model of "Training Ground Newspaper Box"; "One law per week"; "One question and one answer per week". Through these activities, the needs of reading, finding information, studying, improving the cultural life, spirit, knowledge and all-round level of soldiers have been well met...

Sharing with us, Private Le The Duc, a soldier of the Provincial Border Guard Command Office, said: "As usual, after finishing guard duty or farming, the soldiers go to the library to learn and research more information and knowledge of interest such as: Road Traffic Law, communication skills, secrets to success... it has become a habit of ours without us knowing it."

Knowledge of books and newspapers has brought about many educational effects, orienting the ideology of the troops; at the same time, guiding officers and soldiers to read valuable books, especially books on law, military traditions, unit traditions... thereby building a solid political stance for the troops, creating more motivation to strive, practice, and be determined to complete and excellently complete all assigned tasks; at the same time, thereby building officers and soldiers with the mettle, will and confidence to "complete any task, overcome any difficulty, and defeat any enemy".
