Another parent asked to let her child stay in first grade because she saw that her child still could not write her name. Now the child is in 8th grade, slower than the children of the same year, but for this parent, in order for the child to have solid knowledge, being one year late in school is okay.

When scores are "attached" to extra classes

A student recounted that when he was in 6th grade, after taking extra classes at his regular teacher’s house, he discovered that the test in class was the same as the practice test in the extra class. T.D, a 10th grade student at a specialized school, said he deliberately did not take extra classes with the teacher who was teaching his regular classes. Moreover, studying with two different teachers helps me learn more approaches," he said.

Some classmates also have similar choices. But there are also students who choose to take extra classes with regular teachers because of the continuity in lectures, which is convenient for studying and reviewing.

Student V. went to the board to solve a math problem by simplifying an inequality he learned in extra classes. The teacher in the regular class did not recognize it and asked loudly: "Whose author is this?". The whole class was silent. After solving it himself in a different way, the teacher got the same result as the student but in a more complicated way.

Such situations cause psychological damage to students, create conflicts between teachers and affect the reputation of the school. Such "dark moments" on the podium tarnish the image of teachers.

Separation is necessary

Looking at the whole picture of extra teaching and learning, it is necessary to separate extra teaching from regular students.

Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training prohibits teachers from giving extra lessons to students they are teaching in their regular classes. This is a necessary boundary to protect fairness and objectivity in education.

To end the widespread situation of extra teaching, many solutions are needed: improving teachers' income, improving the quality of regular teaching hours, innovating assessment methods and building trust among students and parents.

Extra teaching and learning are not entirely negative, but if not well controlled, they will distort the educational environment.
