Dinh Bac: 'I want to compete abroad'

Sharing at an exchange event with students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, player Nguyen Dinh Bac expressed his desire to play abroad.

On the afternoon of September 20, Nguyen Dinh Bac and commentator Ta Bien Cuong attended the Japan Football Festival at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Here, Dinh Bac and Bien Cuong had an exchange with many students of the school.

Having faced the Japanese team at the 2023 Asian Cup and scored 1 goal for the Vietnamese team against the cherry blossom team, Dinh Bac was filled with emotions when sharing about memorable memories.

"I think I was lucky to face the Japanese team in the continental arena. It was a valuable experience for me. The Japanese players are also role models for me to learn from and follow in my football career development.

I really admire player Takumi Minamino. I have watched him play since the Japanese U19 team against Cong Phuong in regional and continental tournaments. Minamino used to play in the J-League and when he left Japan, he had a very successful career in Europe. I really hope to play abroad like him," Dinh Bac shared.

This is the first time Dinh Bac has expressed his desire to go abroad. Previously, there was information about Dinh Bac receiving attention from Japanese clubs but no official negotiations took place. That was in early 2024, when Dinh Bac was still playing for Hanoi FC.

As for commentator Ta Bien Cuong, this is the first time he has appeared in public since leaving Vietnam Television (VTV). When interacting with students of the University of Technology, Bien Cuong expressed his views on Japanese football.

"Why is Japanese football so successful, having defeated Spain and Germany and thinking about winning the World Cup, but why are Japanese coaches not successful in Vietnam? The recent case of coach Makoto Teguramori of Hanoi is an example.

I think Japanese people and Japanese football are very disciplined but lack softness. It seems Korean people are more suitable for Vietnam," said commentator Ta Bien Cuong.

After the exchange, Dinh Bac and commentator Bien Cuong and the students watched the match between Urawa Red Diamond Club and Kashima Antlers (round 30 of J.League 2025) on television.

This year, Dinh Bac is being highly appreciated by the Hanoi Police Club and the Vietnam U23 team. He has just won the title of Best Player of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament and will likely participate in the 33rd SEA Games taking place at the end of this year.
