Snow White 2025's domestic and international box office revenue

The live-action film Snow White, which Disney invested heavily in with a budget of 270 million USD (about 6,000 billion VND), was officially released on March 21, 2025. However, this blockbuster did not meet the expectations of the "Mouse House", both in terms of revenue and audience response. The controversy surrounding the casting of Rachel Zegler - a Latina actress - as Snow White, along with changes in the plot and CGI effects, seemed to have significantly affected the film's box office performance.

In the domestic market

In the Vietnamese market, Snow White ranked second at the box office in its first week of release, but its revenue only reached 5.7 billion VND with more than 53,000 tickets sold. This achievement is quite modest compared to the expectations for a blockbuster with a large investment. Meanwhile, the 18+ horror film Ghost in the House continued to hold the top position despite entering its third week, earning 11.4 billion VND last weekend (nearly 130,000 tickets), bringing its total revenue to nearly 140 billion VND, according to data from Box Office Vietnam.

The remaining positions in the top 5 at the Vietnamese box office include Extremely Funny Killer (VND 3.8 billion at the weekend, totaling over VND 30 billion), Extremely Difficult Job (VND 3.3 billion) and Death Hole (VND 2.6 billion at the weekend, totaling VND 30 billion). The Vietnamese box office market is currently in a low season, making Snow White's revenue even less outstanding.

In North America and international markets

In North America, Snow White only grossed $43 million in its opening weekend, making it one of Disney's worst-performing live-action releases. This figure is significantly lower than other remakes such as Beauty and the Beast ($174.6 million), The Little Mermaid ($95.5 million), Maleficent ($69.4 million) or Cinderella ($67.8 million). In the international market, the film did not fare any better, earning just $44.3 million, bringing its global total after the first three days to $87.3 million. According to Deadline, this is "a lackluster start" for a project with a huge budget, unlikely to achieve the "happy ending" Disney wanted.

However, some opinions from the Hollywood Reporter said that it is still early to conclude about the failure. With a familiar brand and a lack of competing family films, Snow White still has the potential to improve revenue in the coming time, similar to Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) which started with 35 million USD but then reached the milestone of 700 million USD worldwide. Currently, the film is leading the North American box office last weekend, surpassing competitors such as Black Bag or Captain America: Brave New World.
