The Vietnamese and Thai women's teams have already secured tickets to the semi-finals, promising to create fierce competitions at Lach Tray Stadium.
However, before the knockout round, the two teams will soon face each other in the decisive match for the top spot in Group A of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship. Coach Futoshi Ikeda recently affirmed that the Thai women's team has carefully studied the playing style of the Vietnamese women's team, and is ready to win all 3 points.
Speaking before the match, coach Futoshi Ikeda said: "We have carefully studied the playing style of the Vietnamese women's team. They are a strong and very technical team. This match is extremely important and we aim to win all 3 points."
Thai striker Janista Jinantuya also affirmed that the whole team has prepared carefully to aim for the best results.
Vietnam women's team needs a win to take the top spot in the group, creating an advantage in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, coach Mai Duc Chung also expressed that the coaching staff has been closely following Thailand since the beginning of the tournament and assessed the opportunities equally for both: "We have been following Thailand's performance from the previous match and this match. Thailand has a squad consisting of many young players, including naturalized players.
The goal of the Vietnamese team is to beat Thailand to win the group. For me, the opportunities are divided equally between the two teams. The team that is luckier and takes advantage of the opportunities better will win the group."
Thailand has the same score but has a better goal difference than the Vietnamese women's team.
Before the final round, Thailand temporarily led the group with a goal difference of +14, slightly better than Vietnam (+13). Therefore, Thailand only needs a draw to win the group. On the contrary, Vietnam must win if they want to avoid the top team of Group B, most likely the Philippines with 12 players of American origin.
However, in the upcoming match, Vietnam women will lose their mainstay Duong Thi Van due to injury in the last match. This will be a difficult problem for coach Mai Duc Chung when facing Thailand.
The match between Vietnam and Thailand women's team will take place at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, August 11.
