Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah emphasized that in a press release issued on May 3. Accordingly, the ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue 2023 is considered an open and transparent dialogue forum on human rights issues in the region.
Mr. Teuku Faizasyah said that this initiative is expected to contribute to creating a fair working environment for migrant workers, protecting victims from extremism, eliminating human trafficking as well as violence against women and children.
Indonesia's representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and Chair of the AICHR for 2023, Yuyun Wahyuningrum, while chairing the 36th AICHR Conference (February 27-March 3), stressed that Indonesia's initiatives through consultations, practices and workshops will encompass the interests of all ASEAN member countries in promoting human rights in the region.
Within the framework of the above Conference, for the first time, AICHR organized a country learning visit. Representatives of ASEAN member countries visited Bogor City and Mulyaharja Agro-Tourism Village to witness firsthand the success of regional governments in promoting, advancing and protecting human rights.
The first ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue was held in 2013, initiated by Indonesia. In 2022, Cambodia and Indonesia will co-chair the ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue. The parties will share national programmes and activities to promote and protect human rights, such as the rights of women and children.
