U23 Vietnam's opponent received bad news

Attacking midfielder Aiman Afif suffered an injury after the friendly match between Malaysia U23 and Qatar U23. He is an important player for the Southeast Asian team. He can play well as a striker and has played nearly 20 matches for Malaysia U23.

Aiman Afif was born in 2001 and currently plays for Kedah Darul Aman. He was considered a prodigy of Malaysian football when he played professionally at the age of 19.

" It's a bit unfortunate that Aiman Afif is injured. We have to check the extent of his injury. Some other players are also in the process of recovery, " said head coach Juan Torres Garrido.

In the recent friendly match, U23 Malaysia suffered a 0-1 defeat against U23 Qatar. Ahmed Husham scored from the penalty spot at the end of the first half. This was one of two friendly matches of coach Juan Torres Garrido and his team before the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals. Before that, they also suffered a 1-2 defeat against the Chinese U23 team.

Coach Juan Torres Garrido said friendly matches like the one against Qatar bring many benefits to U23 Malaysia. The team can learn to adapt when facing fast and strong opponents.

" We had a bit of difficulty in the first half because of the opponent's speed of play. However, the whole team gradually controlled the match in the second half when we adapted better, " said Mr. Garrido.

U23 Malaysia has announced a list of 28 players to prepare for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. This list only includes 3 players who participated in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup last March, namely Harith Haiqal, Mukhairi Ajmal and Nooa Laine. Coach Juan Torres Garrido and his players will soon travel to Qatar in early April to prepare for the tournament.

U23 Malaysia will play their opening match against U23 Uzbekistan on April 17. After that, they will face U23 Vietnam (April 20) and U23 Kuwait (April 23).
