Coach Troussier said he had called up 80 players for 4 training sessions to establish the playing style he wanted. The French coach emphasized that the Vietnamese team has many players who have achieved glory such as winning the AFF Cup, winning the SEA Games, winning the U23 Asian Cup runner-up, and reaching the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup. All of them have had good achievements in the past, but overcoming that threshold is not easy.

The match between Vietnam and Iraq is of great importance.

Recently, many young players have been called up to refresh the squad and supplement senior players such as Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, Que Ngoc Hai. The friendly matches in the past few months are expected to help young players gain more experience, ready to enter the field in major tournaments when needed.

The Vietnamese team will face Iraq on November 21 at My Dinh Stadium. This is also the stadium where the Vietnamese team will play in all home matches in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
