Today, November 28, the National Assembly passed a resolution approving the appointment of comrade Nguyen Van Thang as Minister of Finance for the 2021-2026 term.

For the past two years, comrade Thang has held the position of Minister of Transport.

Comrade Thang took over the work at the Ministry of Finance from Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - who was approved by the National Assembly as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance since August.

Comrade Nguyen Van Thang, 51 years old, from Hanoi , has a PhD in financial and monetary theory. He is a member of the 12th (alternate) and 13th Party Central Committee, and a National Assembly delegate of the 14th and 15th terms.

Before taking up government positions, Mr. Thang worked for 18 years at the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank), holding many important positions, from Director of VietinBank Hanoi branch, General Director, to Chairman of the Board of Directors of VietinBank.

In July 2018, he was appointed Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, then Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province.

Since October 2020, Comrade Thang has held the position of Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee. In November 2022, he was approved by the National Assembly to be Minister of Transport.

The Ministry of Finance is a government agency responsible for state management of finance, budget, customs, taxes, fees, public debt, corporate finance and other financial services. The Ministry is also responsible for public asset management, independent auditing, securities and insurance. In addition, the Ministry of Finance also represents the owner of state capital in enterprises in accordance with the law.

There are 4 Deputy Ministers of Finance supporting comrade Nguyen Van Thang in the management of the ministry, including comrades: Nguyen Duc Chi, Cao Anh Tuan, Le Tan Can and Bui Van Khang.
