Gianluigi Donnarumma has officially confirmed his departure from PSG after being left out of the UEFA Super Cup squad against Tottenham Hotspur (August 14). This decision was made in the context of PSG having just recruited goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille for 40 million euros.
On his personal Instagram page, Donnarumma expressed his disappointment: "To the special Paris fans, from the first day I arrived, I have given my all both on and off the pitch to earn my place and defend the PSG goal. Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be a member of the team and contribute to the team's success. I am very disappointed and frustrated."

Earlier in the day, PSG coach Luis Enrique took full responsibility for the "difficult decision" to leave Donnarumma out of the squad. "Donnarumma is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world , and even better on an individual level. But this is the life of top footballers. I take full responsibility for this difficult decision. If it were easy, everyone would do it, these decisions are related to the profile of the goalkeeper that my team needs," Luis Enrique told Sky Italy.
According to ESPN, PSG signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille on August 9 for 40 million euros plus 15 million euros in potential bonuses. Sources said Chevalier was signed to become PSG's new number one goalkeeper.
PSG are reportedly not keen on keeping Donnarumma and have no intention of keeping two top goalkeepers in the squad this season. The club is awaiting offers from Chelsea, Manchester United or Inter Milan, who have contacted Donnarumma's agent, Enzo Raiola. However, according to French media reports, Donnarumma's destination will be Man City.
Donnarumma is said to want to extend his contract with PSG, with just one year left on his current deal, but the two sides have failed to reach an agreement. The 26-year-old is one of the club's highest earners, earning €850,000 a month, and wants a pay rise. However, he has refused to accept the new salary structure introduced by sporting director Luis Campos over the past two years: a lower basic salary with large bonuses for individual and team performance.

Although Donnarumma was a key player for PSG last season, with his big saves helping the club win their first Champions League title, Luis Enrique preferred a goalkeeper who could distribute the ball better and was more comfortable on the ball, and Chevalier fits the bill.
Donnarumma ended his emotional farewell letter: "I hope I will have the chance to look the fans in the eyes at the Parc des Princes again and say goodbye as I should. If that doesn't happen, I want you to know that your support and affection means a lot to me and I will never forget it.
I will always carry with me the memories of all the emotions, the magical nights and of you who made me feel at home. To my teammates - my second family - thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers. It has been a great honour to play for this club and to live in this city. Thank you Paris.
