Tropical depression near East Sea forecast to strengthen into storm number 8

On the morning of September 17, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the tropical depression in the sea east of Luzon Island (Philippines) is likely to strengthen into a storm, then enter the East Sea, becoming the 8th storm in 2025.

Updated at 1:00 a.m. this morning, September 17, the center of the tropical depression in the East Sea was at about 16.0 degrees north latitude and 122.3 degrees east longitude, in the sea east of Luzon Island (Philippines).

Near the center of the tropical depression, the strongest wind is at level 7, equivalent to wind speed from 50 - 61 km/h, gusting to level 9.

The tropical depression is moving west-northwest at about 15 km/h.

It is forecasted that by 1:00 a.m. on September 18, the center of the tropical depression will be in the sea north of Luzon Island with strong winds of level 8, gusts of level 10 and likely to strengthen into a storm.

It is forecasted that by 1am on September 19, this storm will enter the northeastern sea area of the northern East Sea and become the 8th storm of the year. Near the center of the storm, strong winds will be at level 8 - level 9, gusting to level 11 and continue to strengthen.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that due to the influence of the tropical convergence zone with its axis passing through the northern East Sea connecting with the tropical depression near the East Sea, it is likely to strengthen into a storm. Weather forecast at sea today, the sea area from South Quang Tri to Gia Lai , the northern, central and southern East Sea (including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa special zones) will have scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Northeast East Sea has storms from tonight September 17

From tonight, the northeastern sea area of the northern East Sea will have winds gradually increasing to level 6 - level 7, gusting to level 9; near the storm center, winds will be level 8, gusting to level 10, rough seas, waves 2.5 - 4.5 m high.

Weather forecast for today and tonight, in the central East Sea, strong winds level 5 - level 6, gusts level 7 - level 8, rough seas, waves 2 - 3 m high.

In addition, the northern, central and southern areas of the East Sea (including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa special zones), the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have scattered showers and thunderstorms; in particular, the northeastern sea area of the northern East Sea will have storms from the night. During the thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind of level 6 - 7 and waves over 2 m high.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression that will strengthen into storm No. 8 in the East Sea, it is forecasted that during the day and night of September 18, the northeastern sea area of the northern East Sea will have strong winds of level 6 - 7, the area near the storm center will have strong winds of level 8 - 9, gusting to level 11. Waves will be 2.5 - 4.5 m high, with rough seas. Accordingly, all vessels operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong winds and large waves./.
