The number of Vietnamese tourists to Japan in 2024 will reach 621,173. This is the second consecutive year that the number of visitors from Vietnam to Japan has reached a record in history, marking a strong step forward in tourism between the two countries.

Record number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan

The year 2024 will continue to witness a strong boom in the Vietnam-Japan tourism market. According to newly released data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam, the total number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan has reached 621,173, an increase of 108.2% compared to 2023.

This is the second consecutive year that the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan has reached a record high, reflecting the strong recovery after the pandemic and the growing interest of Vietnamese people in the land of cherry blossoms.

Vietnam currently ranks 10th among the markets sending the most tourists to Japan and 4th in Southeast Asia, after Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore.

In 2024, except for January, which coincided with the Lunar New Year holiday, all other months recorded the highest number of visitors ever compared to the same period. This shows that the demand for tourism in Japan is spreading strongly, surpassing the usual seasonality.

The popularity of direct flights from Vietnam to major Japanese cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya... has contributed to creating convenience, shortening travel time and promoting the growing wave of independent travel.

Not only the quantity, the quality of trips has also improved as Vietnamese people begin to explore deeper into the localities, experiencing more with local culture and traditional Japanese cuisine .

Outstanding trends of Vietnamese tourists when coming to Japan

According to statistics from travel companies and industry data, Vietnamese tourists to Japan have not only increased in number but also seen a clear change in travel trends.

Cherry blossom season (March/April) and red leaf season (October/November) are still the traditional peak seasons, attracting large numbers of visitors to major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto... However, besides the central urban areas, many localities with unique natural landscapes and distinctive cultures are also emerging as popular destinations.
