In recent times, the Provincial Forest Protection Department has proactively developed forest protection and management plans suitable to the actual situation, in which the core role of the local forest rangers has been promoted in accompanying the people in forest protection and forestry development.

To effectively manage and protect forests, immediately after the merger of Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces and the rearrangement of administrative units according to the two-level local government model, Lao Cai province established regional forest ranger units and the units established local forest ranger stations to ensure that forest management, protection and development are maintained effectively and continuously.

Up to now, the province has 32 ranger stations under the ranger departments. The stations are located in key areas with many forests, performing the task of advising and coordinating with local authorities to carry out forest protection and development. Local forest rangers have closely followed and grasped the communes to manage and protect forests, mobilize people to plant forests; regularly patrol, coordinate with the grassroots to detect and handle violations in forest management, protection and development.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Ha - Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department said: In order to continue forest protection after the merger, the Department has advised on assigning the management area of ​​forest and forestry land to Hoang Lien Forest Protection Department; building a list of proposed projects in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 to submit to competent authorities for consideration and synthesis. Reviewing legal documents on forestry issued by the People's Councils and People's Committees of Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces (old) before the merger, advising on proposed handling methods. Coordinate with relevant units and localities to conduct field inspections, determine the current forest status of investment projects in the province. Urge units to perform well the work of updating and monitoring forest developments in accordance with regulations; synthesizing and updating forest areas of communes after the merger according to new administrative boundaries, advising and reporting to the People's Committees at the commune level to organize forest management in accordance with regulations...

Forest fire prevention and fighting work has received special attention. The Department has strengthened direction and urged localities and units to implement legal regulations on forest fire prevention and fighting in the area; regularly monitor the hot weather situation, promptly verify forest fire spots and organize fire fighting forces when forest fires occur.

According to statistics of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, in September, the provincial forest protection force conducted 256 propaganda sessions with 16,346 participants; 112 mobile propaganda sessions; and 203 grassroots forest fire prevention and control inspections. By the end of September, the province had conducted 1,370 propaganda sessions in villages and hamlets with 87,602 participants; 641 mobile propaganda sessions; and 519 grassroots forest fire prevention and control inspections.

At the same time, direct subordinate units to strengthen forest management, protection, forest fire prevention and fighting; maintain forest fire prevention and fighting equipment and works, be ready to mobilize and participate in fire fighting when a forest fire occurs.

Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department Nguyen Viet Ha added: In the coming time, the Provincial Forest Protection Department will continue to advise, direct, and urge the good implementation of forest management, protection, forest fire prevention and fighting, nature conservation, forest use purpose conversion, and payment for replacement forest planting. Coordinate with relevant departments, branches, and units to give opinions, compare, and review forest and forestry land areas of projects related to forest and forestry land use purpose conversion. Coordinate with relevant agencies to complete the map system and forest survey data according to the new administrative boundaries of communes and wards after the merger, submit to competent authorities for confirmation and approval; continue to complete investment preparation procedures for the project to upgrade Bat Xat Nature Reserve into a National Park. Direct the Management Board of Tram Tau Protective Forest, Mu Cang Chai, Na Hau Nature Reserve, Mu Cang Chai Species and Habitat Conservation Area to develop a task outline and budget estimate for the project; develop a project for eco-tourism , recreation, etc.
