Bringing STEAM education closer to the young generation of Vietnam

Kinhtedothi - The STEAMese Festival 2024 event brought the future closer to everyone, with the theme "Adventure to the world 3,000", taking place at Hanoi University of Science and Technology last weekend.

More than 4,500 attendees, including children, teenagers, parents and teachers, joined the event, experiencing creative and inspiring activities to promote early and comprehensive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education .

STEAM for Vietnam collaborated with UNICEF Vietnam and the US Mission to Vietnam to organize the event, bringing a series of fun-based learning activities, such as Coding Maze, AI Kingdom and Robot City, to help children learn problem-solving, creative thinking and teamwork. These activities emphasize essential skills to prepare for a more sustainable and equitable future.

As artificial intelligence (AI) and technology reshape the world of work, the skills required of young people have changed dramatically. STEAM education, powered by AI, offers a dynamic approach that emphasizes hands-on skills and interdisciplinary thinking, helping students adapt and thrive in a complex world.

According to UNICEF Viet Nam’s Chief of Education, Tara O’Connell, governments and businesses across the ASEAN region have identified a serious shortage of STEAM skills. Many employers also believe that skills such as problem-solving, communication and creative thinking are lacking among the younger generation.

“Investing in STEAM education is a top priority and UNICEF is committed to promoting equal access for both boys and girls,” said Tara.

STEAM education not only provides students with the skills they need for the future, but also helps them develop critical thinking, creativity and perseverance – important factors for personal development and lifelong learning. STEAM also breaks down gender barriers, creating equal opportunities for all students, especially disadvantaged groups.

Meanwhile, the representative of the US Mission in Vietnam commented that the STEAM Festival event honors the special talents of teachers with the aim of guiding thousands of Vietnamese youth to pursue careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

“By strengthening education and innovation, together we can help Vietnam develop a high-quality workforce,” said Acting Deputy Ambassador Mary Beth Polley.

According to Dr. Tran Viet Hung, founder of STEAM for Vietnam, the STEAMese Festival 2024 is not only a festival but also a milestone marking a new chapter with STEAM 2.0. Through this, it contributes to empowering teachers and inspiring students to become innovators of the future, helping to lay the foundation for the young generation of Vietnam to rise to the top in the field of global technology.

The event not only bridges the gap between traditional education and new-age skills, but also opens up opportunities for students to learn through hands-on activities and creative thinking, aiming to create a new generation of leaders, innovators and global citizens.
