Ahead of the quarter-finals of WTA 250 Sao Paulo, Alex Eala (ranked 61) is on a 7-match winning streak with the WTA 125 championship against Abierto Zapopan (Mexico).
By early this morning (September 13), Eala was unexpectedly defeated in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Brazil by Indonesian player Janice Tjen (ranked 69 places higher) in 2 sets 2-0 (4-6, 1-6).
The Filipino female tennis player started the match with enthusiasm but gradually lost her rhythm and gave up the match to her Southeast Asian opponent, who is ranked 130th on the WTA rankings.

In set 1, Eala won 3 games in a row to lead 3-0, but 23-year-old Tjen turned the game around, winning 11 of the next 13 games to close set 1 with a score of 6-4, then quickly took a 5-1 lead in set 2.
As Eala served, Tjen hit a powerful return to seal the win.
The Indonesian tennis star scored two aces in the match. Despite more double faults, she had 23 aces to Eala's four.
Eala's winning streak began in Mexico, where she defeated Arianne Hartono, Varvara Lepchenko, Nicole Fossa Huergo, Kayla Day and Panna Udvardy to win her first WTA title.
In Sao Paulo, the Nadal Academy graduate overcame Yasmine Mansouri and Julia Riera in the first two rounds.
Meanwhile, Tjen will enter the semi-finals against sixth seed, British player Francesca Jones ( world No. 86).
