Quenching the thirst of soldiers in border areas

In the western border of the province, the story of clean water has been a concern for many years, especially in the dry season.

When large capacity rainwater tanks and modern water treatment plants were built, abundant clean water sources came to Company 2 and Company 5 (Defense Command of Area 3 - Ea Sup), contributing to improving the quality of life of officers and soldiers in the border area.

Check the water supply works to prevent drought for companies in border areas.

Never before have the officers and soldiers of Company 2 looked forward to the jungle rains that come to the border area more than this. After each jungle rain, they hurriedly checked the system of rainwater collection pits and tanks, watching each line of water rise in the tanks.

Senior Lieutenant To Huu Sy, Political Commissar of Company 2, said that in the past, during the dry season, the unit often lacked water for daily activities. There were times when the wells were dry and the water shortage was severe, so the water truck of the Provincial Military Command had to stay at the company for many months to support the transportation of water from the center of Ea Sup commune. There were also times when the unit had to ask for water support from the people.

Last May, the unit was decided by Military Region 5 to invest in a drought-fighting water supply project, thanks to which the water shortage in Company 2 was overcome. The project is a sophisticated system, consisting of two clusters of collection pits and tanks. The collection pits are built with concrete, arranged with trash filters, technical pipes, and have the function of receiving, regulating and cleaning rainwater when it flows into the tank. There are 4 large water tanks built semi-underground, with a capacity of 450 m 3 , nearly 4 m high, pumped to connect at the station house, water tower, and centralized water intake points for soldiers to use and live conveniently.

Pure water filtration plant, contributing to ensuring clean water source for soldiers in border areas.

At Company 5, the drought-fighting water project, including a cluster of collection pits and 3 semi-underground tanks with a capacity of 350 m3, will also be put into use in 2025. After collecting a huge amount of water from the first rains of the season, the tanks are almost full, ready to meet the needs of the entire unit even during the most severe drought.

It can be affirmed that the model of rainwater tanks to prevent drought is an effective solution, suitable for practice; ensuring good long-term logistics for carrying out training and combat readiness tasks in difficult areas such as border areas.

Captain Pham Tuan, Captain of Company 5, shared: The underground water and spring water in the western border area of Dak Lak are heavily contaminated with limestone and contain many impurities. Along with the rainwater tank, the modern, pure water filtration plant invested in construction has provided clean water, contributing to improving the quality of life of officers and soldiers in the border area.
