Make in Vietnam 2025 Award: First time honoring strategic digital technology products

DNVN - The Make in Vietnam 2025 Digital Technology Product Award has been officially launched, marking the first time a new category has been added to honor strategic digital technology products, while also adding many new evaluation criteria to promote the development of the national digital economy.

On the morning of September 4 in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) held a launching ceremony for the Make in Vietnam 2025 Digital Technology Product Award. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of MOST Bui Hoang Phuong and Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Hoang Quang Phong. This is the first year this prestigious award has been organized by the MOST after the merger.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director of the Department of Information Technology Industry (Ministry of Science and Technology), said that the Make in Vietnam Award 2025 will honor outstanding digital technology products, bringing pride to Vietnamese intelligence. The goal of the award is to promote comprehensive, all-people digital transformation to accelerate breakthroughs, develop the digital economy and digitize economic sectors. Mr. Lich emphasized: "The award also aims to master core technologies, foundational technologies, and strategic technologies."

The most notable highlight of this year's awards is the first time the category "Outstanding strategic digital technology products" has been introduced. This new category replaces the previous category "New digital technology products". These are products belonging to the core technology group, included in the list of strategic technologies and technology products of the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1131. These technologies include artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor chips, 5G/6G mobile networks, big data, blockchain, digital copies, virtual/augmented reality, and automation robots.

In addition to the new category, the award will maintain seven categories from 2024, including:

Outstanding digital technology products in the field of industry and construction;

Outstanding digital technology products in the fields of agriculture, resources and environment;

Outstanding digital technology products in the field of transportation, post and logistics;

Outstanding digital technology products in the fields of education, healthcare, culture and society;

Outstanding digital technology products in the fields of finance, banking, trade and services;

Potential digital technology products;

Outstanding digital products for foreign markets.

Regarding evaluation criteria, the Ministry of Science and Technology has added a number of important criteria such as research and development content, product development human resources, number of mastered technologies, product spillover effects and the level of change in productivity and quality when applying the product.

The subjects of participation are also clearly defined. The category "Potential digital technology products" is only for micro, small enterprises or innovative startups, in which Vietnamese people must own at least 51% if they have foreign investment capital. In particular, the category "Outstanding digital technology products for foreign markets" has been expanded to include enterprises established abroad but with Vietnamese people owning at least 51% of the total shares.

The application period for the award runs from September 4 to October 22. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in December within the framework of the National Forum on Developing Vietnamese Digital Technology Enterprises.

The winning products will receive trophies, certificates and support from the Ministry of Science and Technology and VCCI in promoting trade, investment, and consulting on commercialization of products for domestic and foreign markets. Furthermore, potential products without clear legal corridors will be given priority to participate in the policy testing mechanism (sandbox).

After 5 years of organization since 2020, the Make in Vietnam Award has affirmed its position as a prestigious award of the State, attracting more than 1,000 entries and awarding 252 awards. Many products after winning the award have been successfully commercialized, expanding the market and directly contributing to the national digital transformation process.
