CNN today, March 9, quoted a source from the Vatican revealing that for the first time since being hospitalized about 3 weeks ago, Pope Francis showed a good response to treatment.
Pope Francis has been in hospital for three weeks.
The information was revealed after the Holy See Press Office announced early on March 9 (Vietnam time) that Pope Francis was responding well to treatment and had gradually shown slight improvement since the incident of acute respiratory failure on March 3.
The Vatican source said the improvement was due to “gas exchange” in the lungs and oxygenation of the blood. However, the risk of a respiratory crisis remains and remains unpredictable, the source stressed.
The Pope currently receives high-dose oxygen through his nose during the day and non-invasive ventilation at night, according to the Holy See Press Office.
What did Pope Francis say in his first recorded message since being hospitalized?
On the morning of March 8, Pope Francis prayed inside a chapel. In the afternoon, he rested and worked. The Holy See press office said the pope continued to issue documents to convey the Angelus message on Sunday (March 9).
Starting March 9, Pope Francis will attend the traditional Lenten service at the hospital, CNN reported, citing a source from the Vatican.
Since his acute respiratory failure on March 3, the head of the Roman Catholic Church has remained in stable condition and has received respiratory and occupational therapy. On March 6, he released a recorded message thanking supporters for their prayers.
The Holy See press office regularly updates news from the hospital twice a day, and the nighttime prayer event for the Pope's health in St. Peter's Square from February 24th continues.
