Pope Francis died on April 21
The Vatican has officially announced that Pope Francis' funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. (local time, 3:00 p.m. Vietnam time) on April 26 in St. Peter's Square.
According to the plan, the Pope's body will be brought to St. Peter's Basilica at 9:00 a.m. on April 23 (local time), so that people can come to pay their respects. Currently, the Pope's body is lying in a coffin in the chapel of the Santa Marta residence, where he lived for 12 years as head of the Catholic Church.
On the morning of April 22, the Cardinals met at the Vatican to agree on the date of the funeral. According to Church tradition, a Pope's funeral is usually held about 4-6 days after his death, with the funeral mass taking place in St. Peter's Square.
Earlier, the Vatican released a death certificate stating that Pope Francis died of a stroke, which led to a coma and irreversible heart failure. According to the document, he breathed his last at 7:35 a.m. (local time) at his apartment in the Santa Marta residence in the Vatican.
