On September 25, on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons (October 1), at Hanoi Book Street, the Hanoi Association of the Elderly in coordination with the People's Committee of Cua Nam Ward and the International Eye Hospital (DND) organized the launching ceremony of "Action Month for the Vietnamese Elderly" in 2025; implementing the program "Bright eyes for the elderly" for the period 2025-2028.

Speaking at the program, Chairman of the Hanoi Association of the Elderly Nguyen The Toan affirmed that "Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam" has become an annual activity, deeply demonstrating the nation's tradition of "Respecting the elderly and remembering the source of water".
Mr. Nguyen The Toan said that in recent years, the city has issued many preferential policies for the elderly such as: Social subsidies, free public transportation, reduced or free tickets to visit relics and museums, helping the elderly improve their quality of life, live happily, live healthily, live happily.
In 2024, the City Elderly Association at all levels coordinated to visit and give gifts to over 57,000 elderly people, with a total value of 14 billion VND. The health sector examined and provided health consultation to over 234,800 people. In particular, the "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" program examined and provided free consultation to 291,556 elderly people and provided free eye surgery to 98 elderly people in difficult circumstances. Along with that, more than 5,600 cultural and sports clubs and 532 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs, the elderly continued to promote their role in social work, maintaining security and order, and were highly appreciated by the government.
Speaking at the program, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh praised the spirit of "Old age, bright example" of nearly 1.2 million elderly people in the capital; affirmed that the Associations at all levels have played a good role as a bridge between the Party, the State and the people, contributing significantly to the success of the merger of grassroots administrative units.

Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh suggested that the elderly in the capital should continue to promote the Dien Hong spirit and the tradition of "old age, high aspirations" in the new era.
In particular, in the context of implementing Resolution 15 and the Capital Law, the elderly in the Capital must become a valuable resource to form a "Silver Economy in Vietnam", and at the same time be a force converging cultural quintessence, contributing to building the Capital's people worthy of "Trang An people".

Immediately after the launching ceremony, the Organizing Committee launched the "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" Program for the period 2025-2028, aiming to take care of vision health and improve the quality of life for the elderly in the capital; awarded free cataract surgery support to 35 elderly people in difficult circumstances; provided free eye examination and consultation for 160 elderly people; the Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee of Cua Nam ward also awarded gifts to 26 elderly people in difficult circumstances...
