Hanoi: Safely handling two bombs weighing more than 1.3 tons near Long Bien bridge

On the evening of September 18, the Engineering force of the Capital Command coordinated with officers and soldiers of the Defense Cluster of Region 4 - Gia Lam and the Military Command of Bo De Ward to successfully salvage and handle two M-118 bombs, weighing more than 1.3 tons, discovered near Long Bien Bridge (Hanoi).

According to the authorities, these are M-118 bombs, 220cm long, 65cm in diameter, containing about 800kg of TNT explosives. Notably, both bombs still have fuses, posing a potential risk of causing great damage and destruction if they explode.

These two bombs were discovered by fishermen at around 3:00 p.m. on September 15, in the middle of the Red River, about 30 meters upstream from Long Bien Bridge. Immediately after receiving the information, the Capital Command deployed specialized forces to block off the area, ensuring the safety of people and vehicles traveling on the river.

According to the plan, the bombs will be removed and detonated at Cam Son shooting range (Bac Ninh) as soon as possible. Previously, in 2024, three bombs of the same type were discovered and safely disposed of in the Long Bien bridge area.
