Customs commits to 'Efficiency, Security and Prosperity'

(PLVN) - The World Customs Organization chose the theme of International Customs Day 2025 as "Customs committed to performing their duties for Efficiency, Security and Prosperity".

On January 24, the General Department of Customs announced that the World Customs Organization (WCO) had issued a notice on International Customs Day January 26, 2025 and the theme of 2025.

Accordingly, the theme for 2025 chosen by the World Customs Organization is "Customs committed to the mission for Efficiency, Security and Prosperity" with the aim of calling on member Customs agencies to demonstrate their active commitment to implementing WCO tools and transforming them into specific activities with the goal of facilitating trade, ensuring supply chain security and promoting sustainable economic development.

Through this theme, WCO calls on members to promote the implementation of specific activities for each objective.

Specifically, regarding the Efficiency target: Modernize customs procedures, apply digital transformation, develop automatic data exchange mechanisms and strengthen the Single Window System to facilitate and reduce customs clearance time; Promote data-based procedures and use modern technology such as data analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data to support decision-making and risk management; Use scanners and modern technology devices, robots, remote-controlled aircraft, other mobile detection and inspection devices to increase the efficiency and accuracy of management and supervision; Optimize procedures and promote partnerships, ensure compliance with the Revised Kyoto Convention, maintain consultation mechanisms, and enhance communication channels with businesses.

Regarding the Security objective: Strengthening supply chain security through the implementation of the Framework for Trade Security and Facilitation; Preventing illicit trafficking of prohibited goods such as small arms, light weapons, precursors, explosives, nuclear materials and strategic goods; Preventing money laundering and preparing for emergencies.

On the Prosperity Goal: Promote reform and support business operations, especially start-ups and new businesses, by providing full information and supporting the market entry process; Ensure tax management and collection, strengthen the integrated revenue management system, strengthen the review, assessment, update knowledge on trade trends for customs officials, provide full information to facilitate businesses in the process of complying with tax regulations; Promote sustainable economic development contributing to the development of green economy, environmentally friendly products, minimizing environmental impacts in line with the Government's goals on sustainable development; Develop comprehensive policies and tools to address challenges of many target groups, ensuring comprehensiveness and fairness, taking into account the operational practices of small and medium enterprises, paying attention to the issue of diversity and gender equality.
