World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has expressed his disappointment at being forced to withdraw from the Canadian Open after winning Wimbledon, saying he needed to prioritize his health after a grueling run of matches.

"I'm really disappointed to miss the Canadian Open, especially as I have such fond memories of playing in Canada. Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me. But after talking to my team, I had to put my health first. I want to thank Karl Hale, the tournament director, for everything he's done and look forward to returning to Canada and Toronto," Sinner said.

Novak Djokovic - the 2023 Canadian Open champion and 24-time Grand Slam winner - will also not participate in this year's tournament.

He was said to have had problems at Wimbledon 2025 in early July, especially after an unfortunate fall in his quarter-final against Flavio Cobolli. The Serbian star has won the Canadian Open four times in his illustrious career.

The tournament is scheduled to start on July 27 in Toronto, Canada. However, Sinner and Djokovic are not the only big losses in the tournament. UK No. 1 Jack Draper has also announced his withdrawal from both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open due to a hand injury, but hopes to recover in time for the US Open.
