On Sunday afternoon, April 7, the final round of the Youth Photography Contest took place in a unique competition format: 100 junior high school contestants and 100 high school contestants were divided into groups to travel on a yacht and take photos along the Saigon River.
The cruise follows the route of Bach Dang Wharf - Thu Ngu Flagpole - Nha Rong Wharf - Cruise Passenger Port - Tan Thuan Port - Ben Nghe Port, helping students explore Ho Chi Minh City from a new perspective on the Saigon River.
Many contestants said this was their first time taking a cruise on the Saigon River.
"Taking photos on the Saigon River, I had many beautiful angles of the city that I had not had the chance to experience for a long time. The typical high-rise buildings of Ho Chi Minh City, historical relics such as Thu Ngu flagpole, Nha Rong wharf when viewed from the river were very new.
A little further away is the bustling Tan Thuan port, on the other side are green patches that are pleasing to the eye," Ngo Gia Bao, a student at Tri Duc Secondary and High School (Tan Phu), excitedly said.

Duc Tri, a student at Dinh Thien Ly Secondary and High School (District 7), said: "The first time I saw and took pictures of the city from the train, I found it very interesting, especially when I saw people passing by.
Before, I only walked on the street looking down at the Saigon River. Now, looking back from the Saigon River, I see how beautiful my city is."
However, according to Duc Tri, the challenge for you when composing photos on the boat is not small. The most difficult thing is the limited working space compared to on shore, not being able to move freely.
Therefore, according to Duc Tri, photographers need to be proactive in calculating the scenes the train will pass by, and quickly move to take the photo.

Meanwhile, Duc Viet, a student at Binh An Secondary School (District 8), was "challenged" every time the boat rocked due to the waves, making the photos easily blurred. Therefore, throughout the process of taking pictures, Viet had to hold the camera firmly, find a suitable position and always have a support point when working. "I have taken up to 300 photos, according to the rules of the organizing committee, I will choose 10 photos for the judges to score," Duc Viet said.
The Youth Photo Contest for the 2023-2024 school year is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training in collaboration with Tuoi Tre newspaper, Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company and Nikon Vietnam (Viet Hong Import-Export Joint Stock Company).
From the works in the final round, the jury will select first, second, third and consolation prizes for the junior high school and high school categories.
