Over time, the folk activity has developed into a large-scale festival, becoming a unique cultural symbol of the Bay Nui region and recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The racing festival is not only a sports festival but also a lively symphony of Khmer culture. The pairs of oxen are carefully cared for, closely associated with farming life; the “ox riders” are not only racers but also the ones who keep the soul of the festival. Local people, from old to young, consider the racing festival as a part of their homeland.
Below are some photos taken by People's Army Newspaper reporters at the 30th Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival, which took place on September 20 in An Giang .
