Realizing the tourism cooperation agreement between Quang Ninh and Guangxi

China is a key international market for Vietnamese tourism in general and Quang Ninh in particular. Taking advantage of its international border gate and synchronous transportation system, Quang Ninh strengthens connections and promotes the growth of the Chinese tourist market, including the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, through the construction and connection of tourism products and the promotion and advertising work.

Cooperation in tourism development between Quang Ninh and Guangxi is a key area of ​​cooperation in the context of increasingly close friendship between Vietnam and China in general, and Quang Ninh and Guangxi in particular. The tourism sector has always been a focus of development for the two localities and there is a need to increase exchange, cooperation and development.

To promote two-way tourism, businesses of Quang Ninh and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region signed a cooperation agreement on tourism development during the meeting between leaders of Quang Ninh province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in late August 2024. This is a premise to promote cruise tourism, strengthen cooperation with travel agencies and hotels, connect scenic spots to complete the tourism chain; promote information and sightseeing activities, organize exchange and training activities on tourism management.

Realizing the cooperation agreements on tourism development between the two sides, Quang Ninh tourism industry has actively participated in events organized by Guangxi. Accordingly, Quang Ninh participated in the China - Vietnam Border Tourism Festival in Pingxiang City (May 2024); Conference to promote economic and trade cooperation between Guangxi (China) and Quang Ninh, Ha Giang , Cao Bang, Lang Son (Vietnam) in Guangxi (July 2024); at the same time, focusing on developing existing tourist routes through Mong Cai International Border Gate.

In particular, in November 2024, Ha Long International Passenger Port welcomed a cruise ship named Blue Dream Melody from Beihai City (Guangxi, China) bringing more than 1,100 passengers to Quang Ninh, opening up opportunities for trade and tourism development between the two localities. Ms. Xiang Hong, Deputy General Director of Guangxi Port Authority Group (China) said: I am very honored to be one of the first passengers on the cruise route from Beihai to Ha Long. The success of this cruise is a stepping stone for the two sides to continue cooperating to bring many cruises from Beihai to Ha Long and vice versa. It is expected that during the peak period of November 2025, there will be 3 passenger cruises from Beihai to Ha Long per week.

Along with promoting cruise tourism, in early December 2024, the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism chaired a famtrip for 40 travel agencies and the Guangxi Tourism Association to survey and experience new tourism products in Quang Ninh. Ms. Liu Yan (Chinese travel agency) shared: We have been connecting Chinese tourism with Vietnam for 20 years. Businesses wish to connect flights to bring tourists from Guangxi airports to Quang Ninh via Van Don International Airport, as well as continue to maintain the road and sea tourism route of Bac Hai - Ha Long. Along with that, Quang Ninh becomes an indispensable tourist destination in the travel itinerary of Chinese tourists.

Quang Ninh Department of Tourism (Vietnam) worked with the working delegation of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China) on promoting development cooperation between the two provinces and localities (August 2024).

In recent years, Quang Ninh has focused on promoting the connection of Chinese tours and tourist routes through existing transport infrastructure, mainly by road. At Mong Cai International Border Gate, since the beginning of the year, there have been more than 100,000 people entering and leaving China. Recently, the Department of Transport of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Department of Transport of Quang Ninh have agreed to let New National Line Group Transport Co., Ltd. (China) cooperate with Vietnam-China Global Friendship Group Joint Stock Company (Vietnam) to implement a fixed route for transporting passengers by shuttle bus according to a fixed international schedule from Nanning to Ha Long via the Bac Luan Bridge II Customs Clearance. The operation of the Nanning - Ha Long road tourist route has contributed to diversifying tourism products as well as experiences for Chinese tourists when coming to Ha Long - Quang Ninh.

China has always been a key international tourist market of Quang Ninh. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, this tourist market has been quiet for a long time. From 2016 to April 2020, Quang Ninh welcomed over 5 million Chinese visitors, accounting for nearly 30% of the total number of international visitors to the locality, of which 3.24 million Chinese visitors came through border gates in the province. Total tourism revenue from Chinese visitors reached about 15,000 billion VND, creating stable jobs for tens of thousands of workers in the province.

Director of Quang Ninh Department of Tourism Nguyen Huyen Anh said: In the coming time, the unit will continue to coordinate to implement the cooperation agreement between Quang Ninh Department of Tourism and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region which was signed in early 2024; at the same time, coordinate with the other side to train Chinese tour guides, as well as strengthen links with travel agencies and tourism businesses to promote propaganda, promotion and build new tourism products between the two sides. At the end of February 2025, the Spring Meeting Program will take place, the Secretary of the Guangxi Regional Party Committee will also survey Ha Long Bay and discuss the tourism development situation between the two localities. Believe that this is a condition to further strengthen the relationship between the two sides in general and the tourism industry in particular.
