Spreading out the cropping pattern for agricultural products not only reduces the pressure on consumption of main-season products with less competition, giving farmers the opportunity to sell agricultural products at high prices, but also helps farmers increase production efficiency, meeting the continuous demand for agricultural products in the market.
Spreading crops gives farmers the opportunity to sell agricultural products at high prices. |
Avoid "market flooding" and price drops
To reduce pressure on consumption and avoid "market flooding" and price drops, many farmers flexibly produce fruit trees in a spread-out manner, thereby increasing profits by 2-3 times.
Having 4 hectares of mango trees, Mr. Nguyen Van Kiet (Cai Nhum commune) said: "Mangoes in the favorable season are often "in season, low in price", so in recent years I have switched to planting in the opposite season. Thanks to learning more experience, applying processing techniques, especially in disease prevention, compared to other gardens, my mango garden is more effective. There are many fruits, beautiful appearance, so the selling price is higher than the average of 3,000-4,000 VND/kg. Spreading crops helps increase economic efficiency."
Mr. Vo Van Be - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of Java Rambutan Cooperative Tan Khanh (Tra On commune) also said: "Due to the seasonal flowering characteristics of fruit trees, the amount of fruit harvested is concentrated in the main season and sold in large quantities on the market. Therefore, it is inevitable that prices will fall. Therefore, I and the farmers in the cooperative have chosen to produce rambutan in different seasons, at other times, that is, when it is not the main season, the rambutan output is limited, and it is easy to sell at prices 2-3 times higher than the main season. Like the last rambutan season, thanks to avoiding the main season, the selling price was twice as high."
Mr. Ho The Nhu - Vice Chairman of An Binh Commune People's Committee said: In recent times, farmers have done a good job of spreading out the fruit crop to create a stable source of raw materials in linking product consumption. The whole area has nearly 4,000 hectares of fruit gardens growing specialty trees such as longan, rambutan, durian...
The annual fruit growing area yields nearly 50,000 tons, which is the main source of income for the people of the island commune. The commune also builds a raw material area for growing fruit trees in the direction of organic, food safety, VietGAP/GlobalGAP, and builds growing area codes for rambutan and longan trees. Build Binh Hoa Phuoc rambutan agricultural products with geographical indications and brands produced according to a production-consumption chain applying high technology.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, since the beginning of the year, the province has had 17,570 hectares of fruit trees planted, focusing on grapefruit, orange, durian, rambutan, mango, and longan. Thanks to favorable conditions and good flowering techniques, these trees provide fruit products to the market almost all year round, without distinguishing between the favorable season, transitional season, or off-season. However, the favorable season has high productivity and provides more output.
Need to focus on consumption linkage
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment), gardeners have a lot of experience, are diligent, hard-working, and quick to absorb and effectively apply scientific and technical advances.
Therefore, currently most gardeners have implemented good technical processes on measures to handle flowering in different seasons on fruit trees.
Besides, technical advances in crop production are increasingly transferred and positively responded to by people, and applied more and more effectively.
However, the production of fruit trees in different seasons still faces many difficulties. Specifically, the scale of crop production is still individual and not synchronized, causing difficulties in applying technical advances and mechanization. The consumption market is unstable, the current purchasing mainly depends on traders and must go through many intermediaries, making it difficult to control product quality.
In addition, the system of facilities for processing and preserving fruits after harvest still has many limitations, lacking investment in scale and technology; consumption and processing facilities have not paid attention to investing and developing raw material areas...
According to Mr. Be, to handle off-season rambutan, growers must have experience in handling and caring for the plants in a special way, including the step of stimulating the roots and leaves to make the plants flower and bear fruit.
In addition, planting in different seasons also depends greatly on the weather and consumption capacity. If farmers do not produce according to plan and do not have stable contracts with purchasing enterprises, they still have to sell to traders, making it difficult to control prices, and then it is easy to fall into a vicious cycle of falling prices and market oversupply.
Therefore, to increase the efficiency of fruit crop production and overcome limitations, the authorities recommend that when farmers apply fruit crop spreading techniques, they need to closely monitor the weather situation to develop a plan for spreading each specific and appropriate type of tree.
Applying crop spreading measures must go hand in hand with providing necessary nutrients for crops during the crop spreading and harvesting period, avoiding plant exhaustion. It is necessary to implement technical solutions and processes that ensure sufficient standards, specifications, and quality to meet market demands.
At the same time, localities need to develop, direct and coordinate the implementation of fruit crop calendars; create conditions and support farmers and cooperatives to link and consume products to develop stable and sustainable production.
