Proactive water source for winter-spring rice crop

According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, it is forecasted that water resources for the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring rice production in the Mekong Delta region will face many difficulties.

Accordingly, planting in October will encounter some disadvantages such as rice entering the ear stage and often giving low yield, but it is quite safe for areas affected by drought and salt intrusion.

The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection recommends that localities need to plant rice early in October to ensure fresh water sources and avoid drought and saltwater intrusion at the end of the season, especially in coastal provinces, areas that have been damaged by drought and saltwater intrusion.

At the same time, dredge canals, embankments, and plot banks; reinforce dams; inspect, repair, and renovate irrigation works. Organize strict management of water resources, operate works reasonably, and regulate water in each stage in accordance with crop requirements.

Develop, supplement and update drought and flood prevention plans and submit them to competent authorities for approval, paying attention to budget allocation and seed reserve for production in case of natural disasters.
