After achieving success with the Vietnam National Team at the AFF Cup 2024, Coach Kim Sang-sik did not forget to mention Coach Park Hang Seo, who has supported him a lot since arriving at the Vietnam National Team.
Sharing with the Korean media, Coach Kim Sang-sik said he learned from Mr. Park about the method of managing players . "I actively listened to Coach Park Hang Seo's advice that I should show affection to the players. I thought that I needed something different from other coaches, so I decided to become the one who brings laughter and joy to the players. In doing so, I created a big brother-style leadership style, surpassing my previous big brother-style leadership style," Coach Kim Sang-sik confided.
Besides, the strategist born in 1976 also learned how to remind the players: "When I need to criticize someone, I avoid doing it in front of a crowd but call each person individually to remind them. This is a valuable experience from Coach Park Hang Seo".
Coach Kim Sang-sik admitted that he learned from coach Park Hang Seo about how to manage players.
The 49-year-old coach revealed that giving ginseng helped him shorten the gap with Vietnamese players. Coach Kim confided: "Most Vietnamese players think that ginseng (red ginseng) helps Korean players play football until they are 30 years old. So, I gave them ginseng every day when they came to Korea for training last year. I talked a lot about its effects on the players. I think I became very attached and close to the Vietnamese players at that time."
The Korean coach also confided that the AFF Cup 2024 championship helped him to relieve his burden and feel more relieved. He confided: "After more than 7 months since taking on the role of head coach of the Vietnam national team, I was always worried because I had not achieved anything during that time. Therefore, I did not unpack all my luggage but only used what was necessary."
Coach Kim Sang-sik shared : "Now I think I can somewhat relieve the burden and sleep better. I will work harder so that Vietnamese football continues to win glory, not just at this time."
"When I first came to Vietnam, I thought that if I didn't change, I would definitely fail. To develop even a little, I have to constantly try new things. I will do everything I can until the day Vietnam becomes a football powerhouse, representing not only Southeast Asia but also Asia," Coach Kim affirmed.
Coach Kim Sang-sik wants to continue to reap success with the Vietnam National Team
One of the next goals of coach Kim Sang-sik is to help the Vietnam national team win a ticket to the World Cup. He analyzed this goal: "With the number of teams participating in the World Cup increasing to 48, the opportunity for Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand to win tickets to the World Cup has increased. I understand that it is not easy. However, I do not think it is impossible. I will try to create another miracle for Vietnamese football."
The Korean coach also mentioned his family with happiness after winning the AFF Cup 2024: "I couldn't invite my family to Vietnam properly because I had to focus on my coaching duties. However, I'm very happy because this championship has helped me repay my family in some way."
He shared emotionally when talking about his daughter: "When my daughter, who is now in high school, asks to take a selfie with me, I feel like I am flying on clouds. I will continue to be a father who makes my daughter proud with good achievements."
The former coach of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors said he was very touched by the affection of Vietnamese fans for him : "After winning the AFF Cup, the Vietnamese people's view of me has changed. I don't know what to do with their warm welcome. Because fame can disappear like a bubble in the blink of an eye, I will immediately start preparing for the next tournament with the Vietnam national team. I will prepare well to bring joy to the Vietnamese people once again."
Coach Kim Sang-sik talked about conquering the AFF Cup 2024 championship: "I predicted that if the Vietnamese team played according to what we had prepared, we would reach the final. I thought that winning the championship would not be easy, but the players played very well and defeated the Thai team. I would like to thank the players who silently endured the hard training sessions. I will continue to cooperate with them to win many more titles."
