Coach Shin Tae Yong was accused of insulting and treating players unfairly.

Nearly a week after coach Shin Tae Yong was fired by Ulsan Hyundai Club, a series of newspapers simultaneously released information accusing him of beating and cursing at players.

The breakup was not only due to poor performance (only 1 win/8 matches, 10th place) but also stemmed from deep internal discord and accusations of outdated management style, leading to player revolt.

According to former CEO Kim Kwang Guk, the core problem that caused coach Shin to be fired was that his management style was not suitable for the club's direction.

Mr. Kim said he received feedback from the players right after the first training session about Coach Shin using disrespectful language like "you guys". Along with unnecessary "physical contact".

"We warned Coach Shin verbally and in writing not to use foul language or make physical contact," Kim revealed. Some players even expressed skepticism, saying, "What the hell is Coach Shin teaching? What he teaches is only for young players and students."

The climax of the discontent was when a group of veteran players felt they were being treated unfairly for professional reasons and did not greet the coach during a visit to China. In addition to the management issues, Coach Shin was also accused of playing golf during away matches and players took pictures of his golf bag on the team bus, which were later leaked to the media.

In response to all the accusations, coach Shin Tae Yong vehemently denied, saying that much of the information was "exaggerated and untrue". He affirmed that his philosophy was to never assault or curse players.

He admitted calling players "kids" and pulling their ears, but it was an act of goodwill, just like he did in Indonesia.

The rift came to a head after the trip to China. The players held a private meeting and almost the entire squad raised their hands to express their desire to no longer work with Coach Shin. This result was brought to the CEO, leading to the decision to fire him.

Coach Shin expressed his frustration at feeling that he had "no real power" and was disappointed that the club had contacted the players before informing him. The former Korean coach said that the main reason was his "lack of understanding of the club". At the same time, he implicitly criticized the leadership for not supporting him.

This failure has overshadowed the reputation of the coach who won the ACL in 2010 and helped the Korean team defeat Germany at the 2018 World Cup. Mr. Shin also denied rumors that he would be reappointed in Indonesia after the team just stopped in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
