The prestigious newspaper The Guardian (UK) has announced the list of "Next Generation 2025", honoring 60 of the world's most promising young football talents born in 2008. Notably, striker Tran Gia Bao of Hoang Anh Gia Lai is the only representative of the Southeast Asian region on this prestigious list.
The article described Gia Bao as a "bright gem" who is gradually asserting his position in Vietnamese football. This prestigious newspaper especially emphasized that he has made history by becoming the youngest player to play and score in V.League 1 in the 2024-2025 season at the age of 16.
The young striker is described as possessing technical play, intelligent movement and a rare self-confidence.
He not only impressed in youth tournaments but also continuously shone in the domestic professional arena with daring ball handling and beautiful goals.
The newspaper also expressed hope that Gia Bao could become the first Vietnamese player to make a real mark in Europe.

At the national team level, Gia Bao has also left many strong impressions. Most recently, he was a member of the Vietnam U17 team participating in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals and scored an important goal in the 1-1 draw against strong opponent Japan U17.
Previously, in the U16 Vietnam jersey at the U16 CFA Team China 2024 tournament, Gia Bao also contributed to impressive victories against U16 Uzbekistan (3-0) and U17 Japan (1-0).
Being honored by The Guardian in the "Next Generation" list is a great recognition not only for Tran Gia Bao personally but also a positive signal for the entire Vietnamese football industry.
This is the first time in many years that a young Vietnamese talent has been highly appreciated by international experts and considered one of the most potential faces in world football. This list has previously honored many of the world's top stars such as Erling Haaland, Vinicius Jr, Jamal Musiala and Gavi.
Before Gia Bao, Vietnamese football had 2 players honored in the top 60 most promising young talents in the world this year, Phan Thanh Hau and Le Dinh Long Vu.
