After 90 minutes of undecided score, the two teams had to enter a penalty shootout. Here, Dang Van Lam had 2 successful saves, helping the first division representative win 4-3 and get a ticket to the round of 16.

In the post-match press conference, coach Nguyen Viet Thang said that Ninh Binh Club had practiced the penalty shootout before and goalkeeper Van Lam was in good form so he performed excellently. Afterwards, the former Vietnamese player also praised the new stars who had just arrived at Ninh Binh Club: “Not only Van Lam, Hoang Duc, Quoc Viet and Dinh Thanh Binh are all professional. I really respect their attitude in training and living. I didn’t expect them to adapt so quickly. They have the qualities to guide players who are not as good as themselves. They have a very high team spirit. I am happy about that.”
Coach Viet Thang also sent his gratitude to midfielder Do Van Thuan, who suffered a torn knee ligament injury just before the new season. He said: “I want to dedicate this victory to captain Van Thuan. We were unlucky without him because we built our playing style around Van Thuan. I also want to thank the players for fighting their best under difficult weather conditions.”

Coach Viet Thang commented: “I watched the match between Binh Phuoc Club and Ho Chi Minh City Youth Team, and also watched Hoa Binh Club. I think when V-League teams do not have foreign players and first-class teams have good fighting spirit, the gap in skill level between V-League and first-class is not too big. In the upcoming match, we will face Khanh Hoa Club. To win, Ninh Binh Club must try hard because Khanh Hoa Club defends very tightly with a 5-4-1 tactical formation. We can see how difficult Binh Phuoc Club faced Ho Chi Minh City Youth Team. Therefore, we cannot be subjective.”
