On September 4, according to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, the Chairman of the People's Committee of this province has just approved the project to organize 2 sessions/day and boarding for public preschool and general education levels. This is considered a drastic step to improve the quality of comprehensive education , at the same time fundamentally solving the problem of classroom overload and teacher shortage that has lasted for many years.
Ca Mau province has 512/520 public kindergartens and primary schools teaching 2 sessions/day, reaching a rate of nearly 98.5%.

According to the project, the whole province of Ca Mau currently has 512/520 public kindergartens and primary schools teaching 2 sessions/day, reaching a rate of nearly 98.5% (196/196 kindergartens; 316/324 primary schools). The total number of public kindergartens and primary schools organizing semi-boarding is 232/520 schools, reaching a rate of over 44.6% (189/196 kindergartens; 43/324 primary schools). Thus, there are 288 kindergartens and primary schools that have not yet organized semi-boarding. The total number of public secondary and high schools organizing 2 sessions/day is 88/226 schools, reaching a rate of nearly 39% (56/174 secondary schools; 32/52 high schools).
The project also clearly states that, in order to organize 2 sessions/day and boarding, the Ca Mau education sector needs to supplement a series of facilities, from 126 new classrooms for preschool and primary school, to 519 classrooms for secondary school and 462 classrooms for high school, not to mention hundreds of semi-permanent and temporary classrooms. In addition, the system of bedrooms, kitchens, and kitchen storage in both preschool and primary schools are seriously lacking, with hundreds of items needing investment.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau, along with the lack of facilities is the long-term shortage of teachers. Just to implement teaching 2 shifts/day, the province needs more than 1,050 preschool and primary school teachers and nearly 930 secondary school teachers. This number shows that the pressure to recruit, train and retain teachers in the coming period is extremely large.
The total cost of implementing the project is up to more than 942 billion VND, from the state budget, legal and socialized sources. In addition, the local education sector also aims to integrate items into the national target program to increase resources.
According to the roadmap, the construction of classrooms, bedrooms, kitchens and additional staff will be implemented in stages, with priority given to remote areas where parents have difficulty picking up and dropping off their children. The project also affirms that the expansion of boarding schools is not only a technical solution, but also a condition for building a model of "happy, friendly, modern school".
