Conference on Meeting with Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations in Vietnam in 2025

On August 26, in Hanoi, the Meeting with Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations in Vietnam 2025 was held for the first time, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the theme "Connecting localities and foreign non-governmental organizations for sustainable development in Vietnam".

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations Ngo Le Van delivered the opening speech at the conference.

The conference was a great success with the participation of more than 100 delegates from central and local ministries, departments and branches, and representatives of nearly 60 foreign non -governmental organizations operating in Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Working Committee on Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations Ngo Le Van emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to and highly appreciates the companionship and effective contributions of the foreign non-governmental organization community over the past decades. Practical support in terms of international resources, experience and knowledge has made an important contribution to the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction, socio -economic development, improving people's lives and promoting sustainable development. In the context of many global difficulties and challenges, Vietnam wishes to continue to strengthen cooperation and expand connections with foreign non-governmental organizations, aiming at practical programs and projects that are suitable to the priority needs of the country and localities.

Discussion session "Orientation and assessment of local foreign non-governmental aid needs to solve social problems in the new context".

At two thematic discussion sessions, with two topics respectively "Orientation and assessment of foreign non-governmental aid needs of localities to serve the resolution of social issues in the new context" and "Orientation and assessment of foreign non-governmental aid needs of localities to serve sustainable economic development in the new context", representatives of localities such as Cao Bang, Dong Nai and Tuyen Quang frankly shared urgent needs at the grassroots level, from developing healthcare, education, improving the quality of human resources to supporting climate change response and minimizing natural disaster risks.

All opinions emphasized the desire for foreign non-governmental organizations to closely accompany and help localities build sustainable development models, and at the same time recommended that the Central Government continue to improve policy mechanisms and create a more favorable environment for mobilizing and receiving aid.

Representatives of foreign non-governmental organizations such as Medisch Comité Nederland – Vietnam (Netherlands), Norwegian People's Aid Vietnam (Norway), Save the Children International (UK), Worldwide Fund for Nature Vietnam (Switzerland), ICRAF Vietnam (Kenya), ActionAid Vietnam (Netherlands), World Vision International (USA) expressed their appreciation for Vietnam's efforts in improving the cooperative environment and creating favorable conditions for aid and humanitarian projects.

The organizations also acknowledged the effectiveness of coordination with ministries, branches and localities and affirmed their commitment to continue accompanying Vietnam in many priority areas, while proposing many solutions to improve the effectiveness of foreign non-governmental activities in the new period.

In his concluding remarks, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van affirmed that the Conference with its in-depth content and high interactivity has become a forum for open and useful exchanges between central and local agencies and foreign non-governmental organizations. This is a new, creative and practical way that needs to be promoted in the coming time to turn foreign non-governmental activities into a truly effective resource in implementing the four pillars of Vietnam's development resolutions, meeting the requirements of sustainable socio-economic development of localities in the new context.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." Vietnam always hopes that the development path ahead will always have the companionship of international friends.

The conference created conditions for many meetings and contacts on the sidelines to be held, opening up new cooperation opportunities between localities and foreign NGOs. This is an important first step to continue to nurture and write success stories together in the cooperation journey ahead.
