Workshop on the model of "Organic vegetable production with VietGAP certification"

On December 24, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized a workshop and accepted the model "Organic vegetable production with VietGAP certification" in Phu Long town, Ham Thuan Bac. The model has a scale of 15 hectares/47 participating households.

The model was implemented by the Binh Thuan Agricultural Extension Center in coordination with the Farmers' Association and the Phu Long town government from September to December 2024 using the province's agricultural career budget. The goal is to transfer new technical advances in organic vegetable production, through the use of biological fertilizers and pesticides in vegetable production...

According to the assessment of the Agricultural Extension Center, the results after more than 3 months of implementing the model showed that households applying the VietGAP vegetable production process focused on lining with organic, biological fertilizers. Thanks to that, the productivity and profit of model fields growing vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, lettuce, onions, etc. were higher than before (the average yield of leafy vegetables and spices increased by 12-15% and the average profit increased by 40%). Compared to the allowable limit, the vegetable samples taken (Chinese cabbage, green onions) through analysis did not detect heavy metal residues, microorganisms E.coli, Salmonella, pesticide residues of the following groups: Organic Chlorine, Organic Phosphorus, Chrysanthemum, Carbamate. This shows that in vegetable cultivation, households have used safe water sources to irrigate vegetables, used organic fertilizers, biological pesticides, and ensured the quarantine period before harvesting. From there, creating safe products, quality designs, long-lasting freshness, trusted by consumers.

On the other hand, thanks to training and technical guidance, households have mastered the process of producing leafy vegetables and spices according to VietGAP standards. On the other hand, they have accessed the method of recording electronic diaries and the list of recommended pesticides for use on vegetables. Currently, Phu Long safe vegetable group has been granted VietGAP certification by the FAO certification organization for fresh fruit and vegetable products. The cooperative's VietGAP vegetable products are integrated with an electronic information retrieval system (QR code stickers).

Through the model, it has contributed to improving the soil, increasing productivity, quality, and creating safe products. The number of spraying times has been reduced by 2-4 times/crop. It is known that Phu Long is an agricultural production town, with key crops such as dragon fruit, rice and vegetables. For the existing vegetable area of over 40 hectares, production is concentrated in the neighborhoods of Phu Cuong, Phu Truong, Phu An. The town has established 1 VietGAP vegetable cooperative, 1 safe vegetable production cooperative.
